• Royal Automobile Club rewards special Senna 30 Year Legacy display
• Accolade acknowledges biggest-ever display of Senna cars
• Festival also a finalist at The International Historic Motoring Awards 2024
• Tickets for 2025 on sale at Super Early Bird prices
The Senna tribute at this year’s Silverstone Festival has been crowned as the ‘2024 Motoring Spectacle of the Year’ at the Royal Automobile Club’s prestigious Historic Awards.
The prized accolade recognised the Festival’s extraordinary Senna 30 Year Legacy display which featured the largest ever gathering of vehicles spanning every stage of Senna’s incredible career at the circuit where the Brazilian superstar enjoyed more race victories than any other venue worldwide. The scale and significance of the collection may never be replicated.
Organised with the full support of the Senna family, the award-winning showcase sourced vehicles from around the world and included karts from Ayrton’s early years, junior single-seaters and no fewer than 11 Formula 1 cars from his heroic Toleman, Lotus, McLaren and Williams eras.
In addition to all the career-defining race cars, the widely-acclaimed attraction also highlighted two rally cars Senna had driven in the Welsh forests, Honda NSXs he had driven off track and both McLaren and Ducati street machines dedicated to the legendary Brazilian.
An accompanying exhibition in the Silverstone Museum displayed many trophies and other items never before shown in public, while both Ayrton’s nephew Bruno and niece Lalalli were at Silverstone endorsing the memorable tribute to the remarkable achievements of the three-time F1 World Champion.
The award was made at a glittering celebration in Pall Mall, London hosted by Channel 4’s F1 TV presenter Lee McKenzie and presented to key members of the Silverstone Festival team: Giles Brown, Commercial Director at Goose Live Events; Mark Constanduros, Content Curator, Special Tributes; Elliot Spencer, Silverstone Customer Services Team Leader and Amy Beattie, Silverstone Volunteers Manager.
“We are proud to have celebrated Ayrton Senna with such an incredible display at this summer’s Silverstone Festival and delighted to have been rewarded with this accolade from the Royal Automobile Club,” said Event Director, Nick Wigley. “Paying tribute to a 30 year legacy was a poignant anniversary and highlighted how brightly Ayrton’s incredible impression on motorsport still shines.
“Formula 1 and Senna will be back in the spotlight next summer when we celebrate 75 years of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship at the circuit where the first points scoring Grand Prix was staged back in 1950. Hopefully, it will be another award winner!”
As well as being presented with the Motoring Spectacle of the Year at the Royal Automobile Club Historic Awards, both the Silverstone Festival and Silverstone Museum were among the finalists shortlisted at The International Historic Motoring Awards 2024.
