Sooner or later it had to happen, and it took place inHungary. Racing Engineering has proven from thebeginning that it has a car at the level of the best and thatNeel Jani is an excellent driver. Thus, during the 42-laprace at the Hungaroring, everything fell into place andRacing Engineering celebrated its first win in the GP2Series with Neel Jani.
There are many ways to win. There are wins due to chance, thanks to technical problems or driving mistakes. There are alsospecialists in finishing Saturday’s race in 8 th position and likethis start Sunday’s race from pole position, driving to a win. Butthere are also other wins. Those, which are achieved by beingthe fastest in qualifying and then during the race staying in thisposition from the green light until the checkered flag. And thiskind of victory, Neel Jani and Racing Engineering achievedtoday. A win through good hard work. Basically anoverwhelming victory. This was the win of a team that with eachrace that goes by, becomes more and more competitive. Andthat’s why this was a win by an entire team. There’s only onewho climbs onto the podium, but from the trucky to the teammanager, every member of the team is an important part inmaking this win possible.
Today’s victory was the best resultobtained by a Spanish team in this championship to date.Racing Engineering has definitively positioned itself in the sameleague as Arden, Super Nova, ART Grand Prix… the elite ofEuropean single seater racing right after Formula 1.It is a pity however, that Borja Garcia wasn’t able to obtain anypoints like his teammate. But that’s racing and sometimes awheel nut gets stuck during a tyre change as it has alreadyhappened to almost all the teams at one point or another. Andin Borja’s case, all the hard work during the weekend so far wasruined. Without this problem and even keeping in mind thatBorja had a car with a bit of oversteer towards the end of therace, the Racing Engineering driver could have made it to a 7 thor 8 th position. Nevertheless, the balance is positive as Borjahas made some incredible improvements during the last racesand what didn’t go well today, should be back in line for the nextrace. The important part is to continue along with this rhythm ofprogress and improvement.
A very happy Neel jani commented after his win, “Perfect! I hadpole position and a start to finish win. I really want to thank myteam for the car they gave me. Today the car was better thanever before. Towards the end of the race I had some smallproblems, but it’s good to know that we still have some thingswe can improve. I had one or two hairy situations during therace with Kovalainen, but in the end I stayed ahead of him. I amreally happy, for myself and my team, that we finally won”.Borja Garcia said, “At the beginning the car was good, but it’s aknown fact that it’s very hard to overtake at the Hungaroring.Towards the end of the race I had some oversteer, so I justwanted to keep my position”.
A content Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón concludes, “What a race!Neel did a fantastic job. He has finally shown what a championhe is and I am sure it won’t be the last one. Congratulations tothe entire team. Absolutely everyone did a fantastic job and Ithink we deserve a big celebration”.
