WINS FOR MACERATESI, POSTIGLIONE, MACHIELS AND CULLEN IN THE FERRARI CHALLENGE
The International Mugello Circuit hosted the final day of the Ferrari Challenge Pirelli Trophy event on Sunday 18 September, which saw competition in both the Italian and European versions of the one-make series for the 360 Modena cars. Changeable weather affected the various events and thus contributed to ensuring that the championship titles are still up for grabs.
In the main class of the Italian series, Michele Maceratesi (Motor/Malucelli) and Vito Postiglione (CDP) each stamped their authority on the two races on the card, while in the Shell Cup for gentlemen drivers, Giorgio Massazza (Rossocorsa) did the double.
The European Ferrari Challenge saw successes for Belgium's Louis Machiels (Ferrari Antwerpen) and Ireland's Michael Cullen (Rossocorsa) with the two Germans, Ralf Schaefer (Lueg Sportivo) and Frank Gelf (Eberlein) splitting the spoils in the Shell Cup.
The next round takes place from 20 to 23 October, again at Mugello, this time as part of the Ferrari World Finals, which also features the usual demonstration from the Maranello F1 Scuderia.
There are thirty 360 Modena Challenge cars competing in the European series of the Ferrari 360 Challenge Trofeo Pirelli. The top drivers compete in the 'Trofeo Pirelli', with 11 drivers currently competing in this category. The remaining 19 gentleman drivers compete in the 'Coppa Shell' category and the top drivers in this category at the end of the year are elevated to compete in the Trofeo Pirelli category. This year's Ferrari Challenge races run to an endurance type formula with each race lasting 50 minutes, including a compulsory pit stop which lasts for a set minimum time. This allows for cars to be driven by a single driver or a crew of two.
