'British Rally Champions dominate the Astra entry!'.
Double British Rally Champion Jonny Milner is just one of the star attractions to the forthcoming Denbighshire Astra Stages Rally on April 1st. Together with Wrexham born co-driver Nicky Beech, Yorkshireman Milner will drive a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII on the event as part of their preparations for the 2006 MSA British Rally Championship. The duo have used the event as a warm up before, and took a popular victory on the 2002 rally.Joining Milner on the Llangollen based event will be multiple British Rally Champion Jimmy McRae, father of the 1995 World Rally Champion Colin McRae. The Lanarkshire legend was one of the most successful British rally drivers in the 70's and 80's, and the Scot will pilot a Porsche 911 on the Historic section of the North Wales event. With nearly two weeks to go before entries officially close, a bumper entry is likely, and one not short of quality either. Course opening car duties will be carried out by fast rising Irish star Phillip Morrow and his Burnley co-driver Daniel Barritt. The MSA Elite pairing will drive a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX on the rally as part of their pre-season testing. Reigning British Rally Championship 'Stars of the Future' champions James Wozencroft and Robert Fagg will drive an ex-works Suzuki Ignis Super 1600 car on the event after dominating the category in 2005. The Suzuki link doesn't end there however, as the Japanese manufacturer will also have a strong representation in the Denbighshire Astra Stages 'Stars Rally', opening round of the 2006 Stars of the Future series. Notts. driver Tom Walster and Scottish co-driver Kirsty Riddick will be one of the favourites for success in their Suzuki Swift S1400, whilst the similar specification Suzuki Ignis of West Walian duo Carwyn Harries and co-driver Gareth Roberts are sure to provide stiff opposition as some of the UK's best young drivers to battle for honours in cars up to 1400cc in engine size.Elsewhere, former British National Rally Champion Graham Middleton is likely to be a difficult man to beat in the Astra National Stages event. The boss of Matador Tyre Sport is expected to spearhead the charge for British Rally Championship 'Masters' championship points in his Hyundai Accent World Rally Car.These are just some of the entries that look set to make the 2006 Denbighshire Astra Stages Rally one of the most exciting in recent history. Be sure to keep an eye on the event website astrastages.co.uk where you will be able to keep track of the latest entries day by day. The countdown begins!
