Sumpter joins Carrera Cup for Mondello
Former British GT champion Mark Sumpter will join the Porsche Carrera Cup GB for the next two race weekends, starting at Mondello Park over the weekend of 22/23 April.Sumpter will step into the 911GT3 Cup car raced at Brands by Andy Purdie for the races at Mondello and Oulton Park (13/14 May). Purdie is now tied up with university final exams and will rejoin the series at Thruxton on 3/4 June when his exams are complete. The car is run in the colours of Sumpter's Paragon Porsche organisation and is prepared by RH Motorsport. When Purdie resumes his racing, Sumpter will revert to the role of team manager for the balance of the season.Having already raced a Porsche 911GT3RSR in a Britcar race at Silverstone this season, Sumpter is looking forward to the four Carrera Cup races. "I’ve not been in the car that much so far," he says. "But I like Mondello; I learnt it in a 2CV doing two 24 Hour races there!"More recently, he has raced a GT car at Mondello and is looking forward to returning to the Irish track. However, as he is only doing four races, Sumpter is just going out to enjoy the experience. Looking ahead, he is hopeful of being able to conclude a deal to race a full Carrera Cup season in 2007 in a second car alongside Purdie.
