Jordans Rallycross Supercar debut

Andrew Jordan finished a superb fifth in the opening round of the Quaife MSA British Rallycross Championship at the Lydden circuit on Easter Monday (17 April).16 year-old Jordan (Sutton Coldfield) made history by becoming the youngest driver ever to compete in a Supercar in British Rallycross and impressed onlookers with a mature and professional approach.Jordan was racing a 550bhp four-wheel drive Ford Focus built and run by the G-Tech team of former rallycross champion Will Gollop and started his campaign with two second places and a third in the three heats. That ensured him a place in the all-important A final for the top eight Supercars from the heats. With a grid containing all the top names of rallycross, Andrew drove a fine race in the A final to run with the leading pack and finish fifth, and set the third fastest race lap in the process. The leading pack comprised Pat Doran, John McCluskey, Christopher Evans and former champion Dermot Carnegie and Jordan finished the final right on Carnegie's tail. Jordan then ended the day racing in the Superfinal, but a propshaft failure left him with only two-wheel drive and so he cruised round to finish sixth and claim championship points."I loved it," said an elated Andrew at the end of the day. "It's gone better than I thought it would and I've shown that I've got the pace. It helped a lot having the quick guys in front of me as that pulled me along."Andrew's father Mike was also delighted with the day. "Andrew took a very mature approach. Hopefully this performance will show the people who thought this was a step too far that he's more than ready to compete at this level."The British Rallycross Championship action resumes at Pembrey in South Wales on Sunday 7 May.Andrew Jordan is supported by Shell, John Guest, Pirtek, Quaife Engineering and Bill Gwynne Rally School.
