WTCC Yokohama Advan teams in Germany

Almost a third of the way through this year’s FIA World Touring Car Championship calendar, and pressure is mounting on the manufacturers to grab points and wins.

So far the tally is one win each to Chevrolet and Alfa Romeo, with the main battle being between BMW and SEAT.

The German marque has won three races compared to SEAT’s one, but the Spanish manufacturer is still leading the championship with 80 points to BMW’s 69.   So it’s all to play for at Oschersleben this weekend (June 3rd/4th), but precedent favours the home team – BMW – which has won seven out of eight races at the German track in WTCC history.

BMW Team Germany driver Dirk Müller has scored one of BMW’s 2006 victories and Britain’s Andy Priaulx has notched up two.

Jörg Müller, Dirk’s team-mate, has yet to stand on the top step of the podium and hopes Oschersleben, his home race, could be where he does so.

SEAT has upped its game for the event by bringing in a seventh car: SEAT Team Deutschland, with Florian Gruber driving, so the weekend is definitely not a foregone conclusion.

Jörg Müller: “The Yokohama tyre has very good traction and it’s very good under braking and in slow speed corners. That will definitely help us at Oschersleben.   “We’ve been fast in qualifying so far this year, which also shows us the tyres are working very well with the car.”

The main action is on Saturday with qualifying shown live at 15.00 CET on Eurosport. The two back-to-back races start at 15.15 CET on Sunday, with highlights shown at 19.00 CET.  To review or change the format of emails from this group, click Email Format Options.
