14 August 2006: The Uniroyal Fun Cup – Europe’s leading endurance race series – has launched the first ever Fun Cup Scholarship. Open to novices with a UK driving licence[1], the scholarship will give one lucky driver the chance to share the excitement and drama of long distance endurance racing in the 2007 UK season.
The selection process will consist of three rounds held at a leading UK race circuit, where entrants will have one-to-one tuition from a professional race instructor.
In round one, participants will enjoy several sessions behind the wheel of a saloon car whilst being given expert advice on racing lines, braking points and throttle control. Those who impress the most will be invited to take part in round two, which will feature more track sessions and one-to-one tuition.
The ten drivers that impress the most will be invited back to take part in a Grand Final, in which drivers will experience the thrill of driving one of the Fun Cup enduro cars, which are powered by a 130bhp VW/Audi engine encased in a Beetle style body. One lucky driver will then be chosen as the winner of the Fun Cup Scholarship 2007.
The winner will undergo an ARDs test to achieve their National B race licence and will be provided with a full racing kit, including helmet and overalls. They will be given exclusive testing before every race, and compete as part of a team in five races at leading UK circuits. Hospitality will even be provided for the scholarship winner and one guest throughout the season.
Each of the other finalists will receive complementary tickets for all the 2007 Fun Cup races and free entry into round one of the following year’s Scholarship.
Paul Rose, Uniroyal Fun Cup Series Director said, “This is a tremendous opportunity for a novice who has always dreamt of being a racing driver. The training and experience given to the winner would be invaluable - and who knows what opportunities it could lead to.
“We expect the competition to be intense and as such will be looking for a positive attitude, determination and good character.”
The first round will begin week commencing 9th October. For further information on how to take part visit www.funcup.co.uk and click the “Scholarship 2006” link, or call Paul Rose on 01625 511500, or Dan Jones on 0796 7884578.
