This year’s Classic Motor Show, held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 27th until Sunday 29th October 2006, will celebrate automotive design by paying tribute to the cars that shaped the trends of the fifties, sixties, seventies and eighties.Attracting around 40,000 visitors, the Classic Motor Show and its exhibitors will pay tribute to all the elements which inspired the design of today’s classic cars and in turn what the cars themselves inspired during the past 60 years. Classic Car Clubs from across the UK will display what they feel is the epitome of design of their favourite model.
Andy Rouse, Classic Motor Show Manager, explains: “We were looking for a theme that allowed the motoring enthusiasts to showcase the best of their favourite marque without any restrictions. The way cars have evolved over the decades has often been influenced by the lifestyle, music, fashion and even TV programmes of that era so what better way to celebrate than showcasing the best designs of each decade.
“Who knows what impact the kipper tie and big collars had on car designs? The Ford Granada may not have been around as long as it has or be as popular without TV shows like The Sweeny or The Professionals. Hippies, The Beatles, Mods and Mary Quant have all inspired or been inspired by automotive design. No matter how much of a motoring buff each visitor is, they will identify with a song, item of clothing or something that led to the first car they owned.”
To find out exactly which cars are considered ‘the design of the decade’, the Classic Motor Show will be running an online survey via its website www.necclassicmotorshow.co.uk where visitors can vote for the best design of each of the past six decades. The results and potentially the winning vehicles voted for will be on display at the three-day show. The Classic Motor Show has everything for the motoring enthusiast, be it classic motoring clubs, expert mechanical advice, rare tools and spare parts or just the opportunity to see some amazing marques at close proximity. Over 1,000 amazing classic and rare cars will be on display from all eras, ranging from Ford Capris to Ferraris, Sunbeam Alpines to Super performance Lamborghinis, Peugeots to Porsches, Morris Minors to Masseratis! The Classic Motor Show also includes celebrity motoring experts, interactive seminars, a restoration theatre and the popular autojumble.
