Motors TV schedule this week

Fastest Freddie

The Motorsport Memory series makes a welcome return to Motors TV this winter and we kick off with a programme looking at legendary motorcycle racer Freddie Spencer’s amazing year in the 1985 GP500 series. Spencer’s season began on a high, with a win in all three categories at the Daytona 200 in the USA. He then went on to compete in both the 250cc and the 500cc classes of the Grand Prix World Championships, winning both classes, the only rider in history to do so. The programme follows his progress and is filled with archive footage as well as interviews and analysis.

A good challenge

The Land Rover G4 Challenge is described as the Ultimate Challenge and that’s no understatement. Crews from 18 countries including Argentina, Russia and Japan, undertook the four-stage challenge, which began in Bangkok and ended in Bolivia. Crews used Land Rover Discovery 3s and Range Rover Sports kitted out for the challenge, which saw then drive, climb, kayak and bike through the route. Motors TV has highlights of the 2006 Challenge, as it traverses two continents.

CORR – what a race

The Championship Off Road Racing (CORR) is recognised and the place to race off-road in the USA and with good reason. Huge fields of specially-built off-road pick-up trucks race over what resembles a motocross circuit, with jumps and tight turns, as well as fast, sweeping bends. The trucks themselves have huge V8 engines and the racing action is nothing short of breathtaking. Motors TV is showing the 2006 series over the winter and the action kicks off with the first round, from California and continues with a round every Saturday over the next few weeks.

Drag artists

The FIA European Drag Racing Championship is the quickest-accelerating sport on Motors TV. The 2006 five-round championship took competitors all over Europe, with two rounds in the UK and one each in Finland, Sweden and Norway. Five classes compete and Motors TV has highlights of the first round of the series from Santa Pod, Europe’s spiritual home of drag racing.
