Tipped to be the most fiercely contested round of the Drag Racing Championship, the Main Event has expanded to four full days of burning rubber, raucous exhausts and fiery engines guaranteed to get the adrenalin pumping.
British contender Smax Smith will be competing to defend his 2003 title in the Top Fuel Dragsters. He took his machine to a fine win in 5.055 seconds at 292mph on the quarter mile strip in his rookie year, as championship rival, Sweden's Micke Kagered, destroyed his motor in a fireball at half-track in the extremely intense final.
FIA Top Methanol Dragster will see veteran Brit Dave Wilson defending his 2003 championship title in the American Car Imports dragster. Wilson was the fastest qualifier in 2003's final and saw off Sweden's Krister Johansson to face point's leader, Germany's Peter Schofer, in a head to head with two championship contenders battling for the title. Wilson won the race, and the championship, by just 0.04 of a second!
The quick-fire event also includes Funny Cars, Pro Stock Cars, NDRS Bilsport Pro Mods, Junior dragsters, the 200mph Jet Car and round one of the nitro-burning Top Fuel Bikes in the UEM European Drag Bike Championship.
The power of the 200mph Top Fuel Bikes is so great that twinned with the wind resistance the riders risk being swept off the machines if they so much as raise their fingers from the handlebars.
The Main Event is a great family day out with Sportsman classes, helicopter rides, sideshows, music and traders completing the line-up of entertainment. And, with the event now being four days, there is an opportunity for everyone to witness the top action with an extra day of qualifying at a special rate ticket.
