Changes to British GP access

The A43 between M1 J15a in Northamptonshire and M40 J10 in Oxfordshire will be closed to through traffic on Friday, 9 July for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The closure is in addition to the normal Saturday and Sunday closures and is being implemented because of an expected increase in traffic.

Non-race traffic will be diverted from M1 J15 along the A508, A422 and A421, or vice versa.

Local access will be permitted between the M1 J15a and Towcester, and between Brackley and the Welsh Lane interchange. However, the section between Towcester and Welsh Lane will only be available for those going to the Grand Prix.

Detailed access arrangements for each of the villages affected by the closure, including the impact on school and public bus services, will be given to residents between now and the Grand Prix by the various members of the British Grand Prix Inter Agency Working Group. The group includes the Highways Agency, Northamptonshire Police, Northamptonshire County Council, South Northamptonshire Council, Silverstone Motorsport Ltd, British Racing Drivers' Club and the Government Office for the East Midlands.

The Highways Agency's aim is to facilitate travel for people visiting Silverstone for the Grand Prix and to minimise disruption to the local community.
