Wales Rally GB Help Motor Sport

Wales Rally GB has become a cornerstone of British motor sport, with the event’s organisers, International Motor Sports (IMS) contributing £165,000 to training and development for motor sports in 2003 alone.   IMS, the commercial arm of the Motor Sports Association (MSA) sees a central part of its role as generating profits that can be ploughed back into the grass roots of motor sports.  Wales Rally GB contributed a significant amount to the IMS profits in 2003 and Andrew Coe, Chief Executive, expects the 2004 event to play an equally important role. “Wales Rally GB has become one of the jewels in the British motor sports crown, attracting 120,000 spectators in 2003. But we have to ensure that this success filters down to all levels of the sport.  Wales Rally GB not only presents a showcase for young British talent, but all the money generated by the event stays within the sport.   After all motor sports clubs provide volunteers and marshals from all over the UK and without these dedicated individuals and organisations Wales Rally GB  simply wouldn’t be possible. It is only right, therefore, that we ensure the profits from the event go to help bring new people into the sport and cultivate new talent for the future.”Last year IMS contributed £165,000 to the British Motor Sports Training Trust.  This goes directly to the clubs, providing them with vital funding.  And IMS believes it is essential that its profits support the sport as a whole, helping Britain to maintain its reputation as the home of world class motor sport.  “We will be working hard to ensure everyone profits from Wales Rally GB as it continues to develop, securing its position as a premiere event in the World Rally Championship calendar”, concluded Coe.
