Robert Huff achieved the first Green Flag British Touring Car victory of his career in the third of today’s (Sunday) three championship rounds at Brands Hatch, Kent.
The race came down to a thrilling last lap dash to the chequered flag following a safety car period and SEAT Sport UK driver Huff took advantage of the three drivers ahead of him Jason Plato, Matt Neal and Yvan Muller all fouling up to sensationally surge into the lead.
An ecstatic Huff, in his first season of BTCC racing, held his nerve to the line to become the season’s tenth different race-winner.
Team-mate Plato, who had led until the final lap, took second to give SEAT its third 1-2 result of the year. Third, taking advantage of the major reshuffling of positions ahead of him, was VX Racing Junior Tech-Speed’s Michael Bentwood.
In the title race, Vauxhall’s Yvan Muller has moved back to the top of the table. Muller finished the race fifth, but he is now three points clear of team-mate James Thompson who found himself shoved down to 12th on that dramatic final lap. Up to third is Plato, two points ahead of WSR MG driver Anthony Reid who endured a difficult three races.
