CANNONBALL RUN EUROPE - THE COUNTDOWN BEGINS TO EUROPE'S LARGEST ROAD RALLY
The start of the most talked about road rally, the legendary Cannonball Run Europe 2004, will take place on Sunday 12th September 2004 at the Royal Victoria Dock, E16 when 120 super cars will leave London to embark on a 3,500 mile high octane driving adventure across Europe.
Bringing petrol heads and car enthusiasts together from across the UK, Europe and the U.S.A, the Cannonball Run Europe is the ultimate party on the move. For six days, Cannonballers will take onboard challenging roads, breath-taking scenery, luxury hotels, fine dining and fast and furious partying at some of Europe’s most exclusive and prestigious nightclubs.
Tim Porter, Managing Director of Cannonball Run Europe explained: “With 120 cars taking part, the third Cannonball Run Europe will be the largest road rally of its kind. We have been bowled over by the interest in this year’s event and have had entrants from as far a field as Canada and the USA".
“It’s not the vehicle but the navigational skill behind the wheel that counts. Cannonball Run Europe is anyone’s game, all entrants stand an equal chance of winning. As a timed rally the Cannonball Run Europe is about precision and mental ability not speed. The winner is the vehicle that completes the course closest to an average speed of 61 mph and not the first across the finishing line."
The final route is kept a closely guarded secret and only at each checkpoint will the next destination be revealed to each unsuspecting Cannonballer. The victorious team will take the coveted Cannonball Run Europe 2004 title, trophy and get free entry for next year's event in order to defend the crown.Spectators are invited to join the starting line and witness first hand the super cars in action. The chequered flag will drop at 2pm when the mean machines will leave at one minute intervals for Dover. Just some of the vehicles that will be revving up at the starting line in front of the Sunborn Yacht Hotel, Royal Victoria Dock, include a GT Bentley, Hummer, Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari 550 Maranello, F1 50 lighting pick up truck, BMW 760, Mercedes SL350, Aston Martin DB7, Caterham 7, Maserati Spyder, Dodge Viper, BMW 760, Nissan skyline as well as numerous Porsche Turbos and Ferrari.Tim explained: "We also have an entrant driving the original and principle car, a Mitsubishi Evo, that was featured in the blockbuster film, 2 Fast 2 Furious."
Tim concluded: “Cannonballers should expect the unexpected and be prepared for an event they will remember forever."
