David Higgins, Trackrod Preview

Two rounds remain in the Kwik Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship and points leader David Higgins has a one point advantage from his nearest rival, as the series reaches a climax. Higgins is confident he can extend his lead as the championship returns to gravel for the Trackrod Rally Yorkshire. The Trefeglwys driver and co-driver Daniel Barritt had a fraught time on the Ulster Rally having suffered mechanical woes dropping them down the order early on during the rally, the pair pushing themselves back up into the top ten and claim fourth placed BRC contender by the rally end.The Mitsubishi World Rally Championship Team Test driver is looking forward to the challenge ahead on his favourite driving surface in the SGP Motorsport run Hyundai Accent World Rally Car."The Ulster Rally was our only mechanical problem of the season and gives an indication of how strong a team we have in SGP Motorsport and without their support we would not have made it this far. We have took two maximum scores so far this year and we are keen for another in Yorkshire, not just for our championship campaign but also for SGP on their home rally. I am really looking forward to the return to gravel, its where our car is strongest and at its best. I have only done one rally in Yorkshire before and that was nearly ten years ago. This rally will be a new experience for me."While the Welsh based Manx man is confident of his pace on the two remaining rallies, there is still some doubt of him contesting both rallies."While we are entered on the Trackrod we are still short of the budget to contest both rallies. I am working hard on finding the remainder, as it would be a shame to lose the championship so late in the day because of financial difficulties. We wont give up without a fight, but it is a strong possibility that we will miss the last round."

The Trackrod Rally Yorkshire commences on Saturday 2nd October from Malton with classic Yorkshire stages of Cropton, Dalby and Langdale to test the team over two days of rallying before the finish back in Malton with central servicing at nearby Pickering Showground.
