Road America Announces 05 Schedule

50th Anniversary Celebrations Activities at Each Event

Road America has set its primary 2005 schedule,according to George Bruggenthies, president and general manager. The race schedule willinclude two motorcycle weekends, with CCS and AMA racing; three vintage race weekends,including the Brian Redman International Challenge in July; and the American Le MansSeries in August. Champ Car and Road America representatives are in discussions about apossible 2005 event. Children 12 and under and parking are free at Road America. The Road America Season Ticket is a non-transferable photo I.D. hard card, whichprovides entrance to all public weekends.

The tentative race schedule is:

April 22-24 – Champion Cup Series (CCS) – top amateur motorcycle racingMay 13-15 – Sports Car Vintage Racing Assoc. (SVRA) – vintage sports car racingJune 2-5 – American Motorcyclist Assoc. A Champ Car World Series weekend is in discussion and additional public eventsmay be added to the schedule.

Road America historian Tom Shultz has written a new book for the 50th Anniversary,Road America: Celebrating 50 Years of Road Racing, which is available at the track andonline for $49.95 plus shipping and handling.

Each public race weekend will have a special event or activity to recognize the 50th Anniversary of the venerable race track.

Race weekends at Road America include two-for-one action—road racing plusactivity on the Briggs & Stratton Motorplex, which hosts corporate, karting and Super Motoaction. In addition, all tickets include access to the paddock and for most weekends,autograph sessions with riders or drivers. The ALMS and Champ Car weekends include aFan Forum, where fans can ask questions of drivers and series officials.

Road America hosted its first race on Sept. 11, 1955, an SCCA national race, inwhich Phil Hill, of Santa Monica, Calif., driving a Ferrari Monza won, edged past SherwoodJohnston, of Rye, N.Y., in a D Jaguar during the race-long duel for the honor of being first inthe feature race and in the racing annals for the four-mile course.
