BUURMAN SIGNS WINTER DEAL WITH FORTEC WHILE STIRLING & TEAM NASAMAX RETURN

Champion team Fortec Motorsport has confirmed 17-year-old Dutch driver Yelmer Buurman as its third signing ahead of next month’s Formula Renault UK Winter Championship with Michelin, which is now just four weeks away.

Having stood in for 2004 Formula Renault UK Champion Mike Conway during the final two rounds of the regular season at Donington Park last month, Buurman has agreed to remain with the team for the winter series which begins at Pembrey in Wales on Saturday, 6th November, and concludes at North Yorkshire’s Croft Circuit the following weekend.

Buurman, who finished third with Fortec in last year’s Formula Renault UK Winter Championship, spent the majority of 2004 racing in the Formula Renault Eurocup. Prior to this he enjoyed an impressive karting career, the highlight coming in 2000 when he was crowned Dutch Rotax Max Champion.

In further news, Team Nasamax has also announced its return to Formula Renault UK and will contest the upcoming Winter Championship with Candian driver Dean Stirling (Shamley Green, Guildford), son of endurance racing and sportscar competitor Robbie.

The 18-year old, who ran with Nasamax in last year’s winter series, tested the team’s Formula Renault car at Brands Hatch in Kent yesterday (Thursday) and was very happy with his performance, especially considering he hadn’t been in the car for 12 months.

Stirling said: “We’re really looking forward to the Winter Championship and I’m hoping, now my study time is less, I’ll be able to concentrate more on gaining single-seater experience in Formula Renault UK. We hope to use the winter as a platform into next year and after yesterday’s test at Brands we’re confident we’ll go quite well.”

Pembrey Circuit in Wales hosts the first meeting of the 2004 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship with Michelin on Saturday, 6th November, while the series finale will take place a week later at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire on Saturday, 13th November.
