Lewis debuts new car at Homestead

For Shane Lewis getting to race at his ‘home’ track this weekend in the Grand Prix of Miami is an enticing prospect. However, making the Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) event even more special to the Jupiter, Fla. resident is that Lewis will be debuting a new racecar for Southard Motorsports in the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series’ second of 14 rounds. Utilizing a three year-old car at the season-opening Rolex 24 At Daytona in early February, Lewis and the No. 3 OZEXE/ PAP-Parts team completed the grueling 24 hour race and brought home valuable points in the season-long chase for the championship. Now the team focuses on the new BMW-powered Riley chassis that it will utilize the remainder of the season. Lewis will team with Darius Grala (Poland) in Saturday’s race.

Lewis, who currently holds the Grand-Am Cup ST class track record at HMS, will rollout the new red, white and blue BMW-Riley for its inaugural laps Thursday in preparation for Saturday’s feature event. The two hour and 45-minute race around the 2.3-mile, 11-turn South Florida track will be broadcast live on SPEED Channel, Saturday, March 5 at 3 pm (EST).

Shane Lewis: “I’m really excited about this. I can’t wait to drive our team’s new Riley. It’s even better that I will be debuting the car in front of local fans and friends at Homestead. I’ll get to turn the first ever laps in the car at a track I’ve come to call home. Very cool!”
