Historic London-based garage Clapham North MOT will return to the BRSCC as a main partner on its 60th anniversary this year, with owner and racing driver George Grant entering the 2020 Mazda MX-5 SuperCup.

Grant and Clapham North MOT will launch this year’s campaign at the upcoming Autosport International, where they will be joined by The Grand Tour star and 2014 Mazda MX-5 SuperCup champion Abbie Eaton in Hall 1 – Stand 1560. 

Additionally, Grant will have a race-winning Mazda MX-5 Mk3 for sale at the NEC, with attendees also invited to enter a competition to win a passenger ride at a UK circuit.  

“We’re very excited to have Abbie Eaton join us at Autosport International this weekend,” Grant said. “She’s a fantastic driver who’s a great spokesperson for British motorsport and it will be a privilege to have her come to talk about the BRSCC, Clapham North and her racing career.”

2020 marks 60 years since George’s father Ronnie Grant, who celebrates his 95th birthday this weekend, set up Clapham North which soon became the headquarters for his Formula Vee race team and brought together two motor racing icons – Sir Patrick Head and John Barnard. 

The alliance with the BRSCC, one of motorsport’s most prestigious and long-standing organisations, will see Clapham North branding return to all Mazda MX-5 SuperCup cars and further enhances the garage’s strong affiliation with British motor racing.  

“It’s all come together quite nicely, with my dad celebrating his 95th birthday, Clapham North’s 60th anniversary, and now our return back to the BRSCC as prime partners,” Grant said. “In January 1960 it all began, and it’s great to see what we’ve achieved over the years and that we still have this British motorsport connection.

“All SuperCup competitors will adorn Clapham North branding on their windshields and rear licence plate. Of course we are again running the white, red and blue colours on our car that has become synonymous with this championship.” 

Recently, George has expanded Clapham North’s expertise into two wheels, providing MOT and servicing to a range of motorcycles, from 50cc scooters to high-powered superbikes. 

“The goal is to always adapt and look at areas that we can expand Clapham North, so over the last year we’ve been not only doing MOT for motorcycles, but also servicing them and providing a high standard of service for our customers.”

Grant is eyeing more Masters’ class podiums in the 2020 Mazda MX-5 SuperCup, with British racing star Rob Boston running the entry following a stellar end to the season together. The 2010 MX-5 SuperCup champion will also join Grant at ASI on the Clapham North stand.

“Towards the end of last year’s SuperCup, we joined up with Rob Boston Racing to try and improve certain aspects of my performance,” Grant recalls. “It was such an incredible debut and I felt I could fight with some of the championship’s quickest drivers. I’m now looking at fighting for more Masters’ class podiums and victories.”

This year also sees Grant continue his support for Haig Housing’s Coming Home charity, which provides specially adapted housing and support for ex-service personnel.
