Reigning Manufacturers' Champions eyeing three in a row
Porsche will defend the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli Manufacturers' title this year after officially confirming its participation in the globetrotting series.
The news comes less than one week before the official TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa test days (June 22/23), which signal the start of a campaign featuring three rounds on as many continents.
Porsche retained its Manufacturers' crown last season after also claiming the Drivers' Championship with Dennis Olsen in 2019.
Both title triumphs were built around consecutive victories at the TotalEnergies 24 Hours of Spa. As many as six 911 GT3 Rs can be nominated for this year's season opener there on July 29 - August 1 before that number drops to four at the remaining two rounds: the Indianapolis 8 Hour (October 15-17) and Kyalami 9 Hour (December 2-4).
Porsche 911 GT3 R Project Manager, Sebastian Golz: "In 2019, Porsche and our strong customer teams celebrated the Manufacturers' and Drivers' title in the Intercontinental GT Challenge Powered by Pirelli. Last year, we defended the crown. We are working hard to make it three in a row. Our teams will prepare the Porsche 911 GT3 R during the upcoming official test at Spa. We will head into the 2021 season with a strong car and experienced driver line-ups."
Porsche joins Audi, Lamborghini and Mercedes-AMG on #IGTC’s current list of full-season manufacturers.
All teams eligible to score points on behalf of their manufacturer will be confirmed in the week leading up to Round 1.
