TreasuryOne duo set to bounce back after second day drama

It was an early shower for Hennie de Klerk and Adriaan Roets when a clutch failure on their TreasuryOne BMW X3 halted progress on the second competitive day of the Kalahari Rally around Heuningvlei on Monday. The team has however already repaired their trusty test steed to rejoin South Africa’s longest and most gruelling race on Tuesday.

“We were all fired up and hopeful this morning and we were ahead of the wind through the first section with a very quick time,” Hennie reflected. But then we ran into gear change issues and could not maintain race pace, so we decided to lave the route to try fix the car in time for tomorrow. “It turned out that we had a clutch failure and the TreasuryOne team has it all promptly sorted promptly as always.

“It’s been a tough race and the experience we have already gained has been invaluable, never mind we hardly broke a sweat today so will be fresh for a new challenge tomorrow. "Now we will push on and keep on training and learning on this incredible event as we keep on with our preparations for Dakar 2022. “This deep Kalahari terrain is a perfect match for what we will encounter in the Arabian Desert in January.”

The Kalahari Rally takes in a variety of dunes, salt pans and racks including the world land speed record Haaksteeenpan along the borders of the Kgalagadi Park, and the Namibian and Botswana borders. The ideal preparation for 2018 Rookie Winner Hennie and Adriaan’s Dakar 2022 attack in the TreasuryOne Amarok.
