Rally Motul Costa Brava kicks off FIA European Historic Rally Championship

There is just one week to go until the start of the 70th Rally Motul Costa Brava, the opening round of the 2022 FIA European Historic Rally Championship.


The rally will begin on Thursday 17th March with scrutineering and the ceremonial start.  Leg one will begin on Friday 18th and Leg two will conclude the rally on Saturday 19th March, with each leg featuring six special stages.


The entry includes 57 cars in the FIA section, of which 39 are full season entries and eligible for championship points.
Ten more entries have been received for the 2022 FIA European Historic Rally Championship, two in Category 1 and in Category 2, four in Category 3 and two more for Category 4. 
This brings the Category 4 entry for the 2022 season to an impressive 20 cars so far and 43 full season entries across the four categories.


Lahti Historic Rally Category 1 winners Teuvo Hamalainen and Pirjo Rosberg return the EHRC in their 1961 Alfa Romeo Giulietta and will be joined in Category 1 by Italian crew Roberto Lumini and Claudio Quarantani in a Porsche 911S.


Paolo Pasutti and Giovanni Campeis will be back in Category 2 with their Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.0, while the Flexifly Rally Team are entering a Ford Escort RS1800 in Category 2 for Martin McCormack and Barney Mitchell. 


Four Category 3 entries have boosted the entry to 12 cars for the 2022 season.  2019 champions Karl Wagner and Gerda Zauner are back, the Austrians will compete in the distinctive yellow Porsche 911 SC.  


Two further Porsche 911 SCs are being run by Spanish team Escuderia Madrid Historicos.  The first 911 for Francisco Casas Munoz and the second for Fernando Dameto.


The fourth entry in Category 3 is a Ferrari 308 GTB run by British team Dansport Limited for Andrew McAlpine and Andrew Bull.


Hungarian crew Peter Magoss and Victor Ban are re-joining the championship, competing this year in a Category 4 Subaru Legacy Turbo. The distinctive Renault 11 Turbo of Carlos Sampayo Cao is also an entry in Category, the Spanish driver being joined by Lucia Santiago Velazquez in the co-driver’s seat.
