Speedy Motorsport is the most recent team to announce their intent to compete in the 2023 Iberian Supercars Endurance and Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade by Hankook.
"This will not be Speedy Motorsport's first foray into GT racing, but it is an important step for the team and reveals our confidence in the championship and what is to come," says team founder and renowned Portuguese driver Pedro Salvador who does not hide that "it is also a privilege to do so with the only BMW M4 GT4 that is scheduled to be delivered this year in Portugal."
Developed by BMW M Motorsport, the new M4 GT4 inherited the strong points of its predecessor and received a strong boost in other areas, such as performance, reliability, cost efficiency and maintenance. This season, and for the first time, the Iberian Supercars Endurance will be part of the BMW M Sports Trophy, the initiative of the Munich-based car manufacturer that supports drivers and teams using the BMW cars in various championships and renowned events around the world.
"The idea was to be able to bring a new generation GT4 from a big manufacturer. We had the possibility of bringing a Porsche or a BMW, but in the end the choice fell on the M4 GT4. It is a car that gives us guarantees to fight for the top places as we are used to at Speedy Motorsport", explained Pedro Salvador.
With victories and titles won in circuit racing, rally, and off-road, Speedy Motorsport plans to take part in both the Iberian Supercars Endurance and the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade by Hankook. "An investment of this size would only make sense doing the five events that are on the calendar, not least because it is only by participating in all the events that we can maximise all of our sponsors' commitment to this project."
In the upcoming weeks, Speedy Motorsport will announce its driver line-up and provide more details about its racing program.
The 2023 seasons of the Iberian Supercars Endurance and the Campeonato de Portugal de Velocidade by Hankook will kick off with a joint event on the weekend of 6 and 7 May at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
