Gooding & Company Showcases the Best of German Performance with Porsche Lineup for Upcoming Pebble Beach and London Sales 
The auction house will present an outstanding 1960 Porsche RS60 Spyder, alongside other Porsche powerhouses throughout the decades, at its upcoming Pebble Beach and London Auctions. 

This summer, global auction house Gooding & Company will present a number of highly desirable, first-rate examples of the finest Porsche models spanning several eras and decades. First, the firm will present a 1960 Porsche RS60 and other incredible offerings at its signature Pebble Beach Auctions on August 18 and 19 as the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. Later this summer, Gooding & Company will conduct its London Auction as the official auction partner of the Concours of Elegance, held on the royal grounds of the historic Hampton Court Palace. Pebble Beach Auctions, August 18 - 19
The leading Porsche of Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions is undoubtedly this incredibly maintained 1960 Porsche RS60 (Estimate: $5,500,000 – $6,500,000). Unveiled in January 1960, the RS60 represented the ultimate evolution of Porsche’s aluminum-bodied, four-cam Spyder. Improving upon its predecessors, the RS60 featured a larger cockpit, unequal-length wishbone rear suspension, improved brakes, and more modern 15” wheels. It came equipped with Porsche’s potent Type 547/3 four-cam engine, culminating in a highly efficient sports car well suited for technical circuits and open road races. With its exceptional roadholding, braking, and acceleration, the RS60 was the first Porsche to pose a real threat to the large-capacity sports racers of its time, and competed triumphantly upon its debut. A total of just 17 RS60s were built, four of which were retained for Porsche’s own works team. The RS60 on offer here, chassis 718-060, is among the finest, most original Porsche Spyders extant, possessing an illustrious period competition history, well-documented provenance, and uncommon originality. 

One of only six customer RS60s delivered new to the US, it was ordered for its first owner, William Wuesthoff of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Per documentation on file, 718-060 was originally finished in silver and equipped with Type 547/3 four-cam engine no. 90254. Upon its arrival, Wuesthoff painted a distinctive metallic blue accents on the body, immediately distinguishing it from other silver Spyders. Between 1960 and 1963, Wuesthoff campaigned the RS60 in 17 races throughout the US, achieving 12 class wins in the process. Just as astonishing as its incredible performance was its impeccable condition after four seasons of active racing: the RS60 was meticulously maintained by Chicago-area Porsche expert Glen Carroll, and avoided any serious incident due to Wuesthoff’s careful and intuitive driving. In late 1963, Wuesthoff sold 718-060 to legendary Porsche racer Bruce “King Carrera” Jennings, and the Spyder has been collector-owned by knowledgeable enthusiasts since, including three decades in the ownership of pioneering collector Dr. William Jackson. 

Upon joining the collection of Peter Le Saffre in late 1999, 718-060 arrived at Paul Russell and Company, where the car received a sympathetic restoration, including an engine rebuild by four-cam specialist Bill Doyle. Soon after, the RS60 was sold to William E. “Chip” Connor II, joining his world-class collection. Under his ownership, 718-060 benefited from first-rate preparation and upkeep, and was selectively displayed at leading events such as The Quail and the Porsche Race Car Classics. More recently, the RS60 was campaigned at Rennsport Reunion IV, the Monterey Historic Automobile Races, and Le Mans Classic, a testament to its lasting mechanical fitness. Today, this RS60 comes to market as one of the finest and most original surviving Porsche four-cam Spyders, retaining its original Wendler-built aluminum coachwork and its factory-delivered engine. With its distinctive appearance, unparalleled originality, and provenance consisting of the most respected collectors, 718-060 truly presents a once in a lifetime opportunity. 

Some of Stuttgart’s most iconic 1990s creations will also be on offer at Pebble Beach, including a unique 1996 Porsche 993 GT2 (Estimate: $1,750,000 – $2,000,000) finished in striking paint-to-sample Iris Blue Metallic. With just three documented owners from new, this 993 GT2 was formerly owned by ex-Formula 1 driver Adrian Sutil, and showed just 43,745 km at the time of cataloguing. Also featured is a 1994 Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 S (Estimate: $1,000,000 – $1,250,000, Without Reserve), equipped with ultra-rare X99 rear fender vents, sports seats, and sunroof-delete. One of just 76 high-performance Turbo S models built for the Rest of World (ROW) markets, this no-reserve 964 Turbo is finished in vibrant Speed Yellow (Code X4) over a black full leather interior. 

The Pebble Beach Auctions will also present the Stanley Gold Porsche Collection, a trio embodying the best of Porsche engineering through the decades. This includes a 1957 Porsche 356 A Speedster (Estimate: $400,000 – $500,000) finished in its factory-original specification of red over beige leatherette, as well as a 1964 Porsche 356 C Carrera 2 Coupe (Estimate: $600,000 – $700,000) finished in factory original Irish Green over Fawn upholstery. The exceedingly rare 356 C Carrera 2 is optioned with an electric sunroof and gas heater, both of which were quite advanced specifications for its time. The Stanley Gold Porsche Collection is rounded out by the modern 2019 Porsche 911 Speedster (Estimate: $350,000 – $425,000), coming to market with just 1,912 original miles upon cataloguing. In addition to this captivating collection, performance power is highlighted by the 1975 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR (Estimate: $1,800,000 – $2,400,000), a highly regarded example that was delivered new to Vasek Polak in 1975. One of only 54 examples produced and the third-to-last Porsche 3.0 RSR built by the factory, this race-eligible RSR was owned by Vasek Polak and driven by Milt Minter in the 1976 IMSA GT Laguna Seca 100 Miles. 

London Auction, 1 September
Later this summer, Gooding & Company’s London Auction at the Concours of Elegance at Hampton Court Palace will also feature a number of premier Porsche consignments. Leading this group is a 1993 Porsche 964 Carrera RS 3.8 (Estimate: £850,000 – £1,000,000), one of just 55 examples built in total and just 12 finished in brilliant Speed Yellow. A superb example of the road-going version of Porsche’s dominant 964 RSR racing car, this 964 Carrera RS 3.8 is offered from the collection of a dedicated Italian Porsche enthusiast. The sale will also feature a 1964 Porsche 356 C Carrera 2 Cabriolet (Estimate: £900,000 – £1,100,000), which comes to auction beautifully presented in its original Elfenbein over green leather color scheme. Additionally, the sale will include an exceptional 1956 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS Carrera Coupe (Estimate: £550,000 –  £650,000), equipped with a rare factory sunroof, finished in its rare, original gold over beige color scheme, and restored by the experts at Carrozzeria Cremonini. 

  
Also on offer at Gooding & Company’s London sale is a 2013 Porsche Carrera S Club Coupe (Estimate: £275,000 – £325,000), one of 13 Type 991.1 Club Coupes produced worldwide to commemorate the Porsche Club’s 60th anniversary and made exclusively available to Porsche Club members. One of only two produced in right-hand drive, this Club Coupe is notable for its striking color specification, Family Green over Cappuccino leather. Not even available as a paint-to-sample option, Family Green is anecdotally the preferred color of the Porsche-Piëch family, making this ultra-rare 911 an especially desirable offering.
