Mark Rennison returns to rallycross in Ford RS200 for Lydden Legend Festival

Two-time British Rallycross Champion Mark Rennison will return to the wheel of a Group B Ford RS200 for the brand-new Lydden Legend Festival this July (19-21).

Famous for racing to title success in the 1987 and 1988 British Rallycross Championships at the wheel of an RS200, Rennison will return to one of the monstrous machines for his return to rallycross at Lydden Hill – the birthplace of the sport, a circuit at which the Yorkshireman claimed five of his 14 career victories.

The youngest ever British Rallycross Champion at the time (aged 23) and the first driver ever to win the British crown in a Group B car, Rennison is still the only driver to win every round in a full British campaign.

He most recently drove an RS200 on the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb in 2014 and last drove on a rallycross circuit in 2017, when he raced an RX150 buggy at his home circuit, Croft.

For the new Lydden Legend Festival event he will drive an RS200 owned by fellow-Brit Steve Harris, as campaigned by Harris in events around Europe in recent years, adorned with a replica livery to that used by Rennison in his 1987 title-winning campaign.

The Lydden Legend Festival is focused around celebrating the glory of period rallycross and rally machinery, following in the footsteps of the hugely-successful Loheac Legend Festival held last year in France. The event will feature on-track action for machinery from the history of rallycross with a diverse range of classes, headlined by Group B and 4WD monsters.

Mark Rennison:

“I can’t remember the last time I drove a top rallycross car – it’s been a long time. I have nearly been tempted to have a go in a Supercar in recent years and I’m honoured to be going to the Lydden Legend Festival to drive an RS200. I was honoured when Steve (Harris) put his car in my livery a few years ago, and its very kind of him to let me drive the car at the event. It will be special to be there and join some amazing names and cars.”
