Rees heads North

Young Welsh rally driver Grant Rees will make journey from his Llanybydder home to the Lake District market town of Cockermouth to contest the Malcolm Wilson Rally. The event which takes place on Saturday 11th March, is the second round of the British Trials & Rally Drivers Association (BTRDA) Championship. The first round of the series, the Get Connected! Wyedean Forest Rally ended prematurely for the West Wales driver, when a broken windscreen forced retirement on the grounds of safety.Grant, in only his second year of rallying, is still learning with each event he contests. The Malcolm Wilson Rally will be his second visit having competed on the rally back in 2005 at the wheel of a Volkswagon Polo. This event will see Grant and his Aberystwyth co-driver, Wyn Davies using the Suzuki Swift which they used on the opening round. The pair plan a full assault in 2006 on both the BTRDA Xspec 1400 Championship and the Silverstone Tyres Stars of the Future series. Grant will conduct some pre event tests ahead of his journey North. However, the test will have no influence on Grant's game plan for the weekend."I am really looking forward to the rally. If it is anything like last year it will be a good event with lots of ice and very slippery and should make for an interesting day. Our main plan of attack is to go for a finish and get some points for the championship."The Malcolm Wilson Rally is based at M-Sport, the Head Quarters of the Ford World Rally Championship Team and their Team Manager Malcolm Wilson sponsors the rally. This years event begins in Cockermouth High Street at 9am with 45miles of competitive driving through classic Lake District forests of Hobcarton, Comb, Wythop & Grizedale before returning to the finish at around 16.30.
