Ron Haslam Race School rides into Silverstone

Instructors and riders ‘buzzing’ after first sessionRider tuition available at the Home of MotoGP, World and British Superbikes

Following   the   relocation   last   month   of   the   renowned   Honda   Ron   Haslam   Race   School, Silverstone has already proved popular as the School’s new venue.

On the first public day to be held at Silverstone, at the end of March, both the instructors and participants were ‘buzzing’ after riding the new International Circuit. With 70 riders having taken part on the inaugural day, split across the premier and elite courses, Ann  Haslam,  of  the  Honda  Ron  Haslam  Race  School,  said,  “The  feedback  we  received  was fantastic. Our clients and instructors loved it. They enjoyed the circuit more than they thought they would  and  commented  that  due  to  the  fast,  technical  nature  of  the  track,  there  is  a  great opportunity  to  learn  many  new  skills.  The  Honda  Ron  Haslam  Race  School  is  proud  to  be  at Silverstone, the Home of MotoGP and both the British and World Superbike championships.

“Silverstone provides a new challenge and we’ve got 16 dates for customers to come down and fine-tune their track skills at the new circuit. Throughout the year we will run courses for riders of all ages and abilities - at a grass roots level we cater for beginners and riders as young as 12 years  of  age,  while  our  premier course  customers  and  the  elites  will  receive  expert  guidance aboard the new Honda CBR600RR ABS and the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade respectively.”

The  move  to  Silverstone  means  ‘Rocket’  Ron  Haslam  returns to the track where he made his Grand Prix debut in 1977, riding a 500cc Suzuki in the British Grand Prix, and where he finished third, behind Randy Mamola and Eddie Lawson, in the 1984 British Grand Prix. The motorcycle race school offers an introduction to high performance bikes at Silverstone, with race experienced instructors providing customers with expert tuition on how to improve their skills and understand the finer points of riding. Together with Honda, the Race School has developed a programme that offers courses ranging from  introductory  through  to  more  advanced  levels.

The  School’s  next  available  dates  are Wednesday 28 April and Tuesday 4 May. Richard   Phillips,   Managing   Director   of   Silverstone   Circuits   Limited,   commented,   “We   are delighted that the Honda Ron Haslam Race School is now based at Silverstone. It is one of the most popular track schools in the UK and further strengthens our motorcycle offering. We have invested more than £5 million on bike and spectator facilities, and it is essential that we continue to  diversify  the  Silverstone  business.  Adding  the  Race  School  to  our  world  class  line-up  of motorcycle events - including the AirAsia British Grand Prix (MotoGP), World Superbikes and the MCE  British  Superbike  Championship  –  reiterates  our  commitment  to  bikes  and  motorcycle racing at Silverstone.”
