Romeo Ferraris has announced the launch of the Alfa Romeo Giulia ETCR project.
The manufacturer based at Opera near Milan has been involved for more than five years in the production of the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR by Romeo Ferraris and its Veloce restyling, which has been a race winner in every national and international championship to which it has taken part, from the USA to Australia, Europe, Middle East, China and Japan, without forgetting the successes conquered in the TCR International Series and the FIA WTCR through customer teams GE Force and Team Mulsanne.
Following the announcement, thirteen months ago, of the launch of the new ETCR series, Romeo Ferraris has decided to embrace the new philosophy, while remaining faithful to the Alfa Romeo brand, and to design and develop the Giulia ETCR. The Giulia street model has already been the object of a premium elaboration resulting in the Giulia QV with over 600 hp and as a flagship car model in the car market, it seemed perfectly suited for a conversion to electric power. The project will bring back to motor racing the Giulia name fifty years after the Alfa Romeo Giulia Ti Super, also known as “Giulia Quadrifoglio”, made its racing debut in 1962.
The strictly private nature of the project, as it was for the Giulietta TCR in a recent past and, previously, for the FatFive in both its Racing and Stradale versions, underlines the merits of the work that Romeo Ferraris undertakes without official support from carmakers, firmly believing in the principles of fair competition in racing and relying entirely on its own staff, trained and developed in-house over the years. The current organization, despite its smaller size, can claim the same level of professionalism and commitment of works racing departments.
Romeo Ferraris has been successful in motor racing since 1965, and by engaging in the ‘electric era’, it now takes up a new challenge, which marks its first venture in the world of alternative energies, after having reached the highest standards in engineering and performance with thermal engines. For this project, Romeo Ferraris will rely on the support, as technical consultants, of Hexathron Racing System.
Michela Cerruti, Romeo Ferraris Operations Manager
“We are delighted to announce the start of a new venture for our company. Touring car racing is a fascinating world and it’s no coincidence that we have been successfully present in this area for the last 20 years. After giving the Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR the highest results on the international scene that could be achieved by an independently-run programme as ours, we have decided to take a brave big dive into the new ETCR series concept. A lot of things still need to be outlined, of course, and that is absolutely normal when you start from a white sheet of paper, but we believe that electric is the obvious choice for the future, not only for automotive but also for motor racing. Our engineers are already at work, we are starting this journey later than the big carmakers that have already been engaged in electric racing for some time, with way larger resources than a private constructor like us. Regardless of all that, we will do our utmost to keep our reputation high, as we have always done so far.”
