1965 - Ford GT 40 P/1000-W FIA ..... 'One of the best performing GT40s on the market,
One of the most eagerly-awaited lots this year is the legendary Ford GT40 P/1000-W, a true icon of motor sport.
Chassis number P/1000-W, this GT40 is like no other. It is in fact the very first GT40 Mk1 chassis ever built, initially used to fit the body panels of the first GT40s.
Entered in the 1966 Sebring 12 Hours, it tragically made history with the death of driver Bob McLean, the great Canadian champion in '65. But from its ashes a new legend was born... Resurrected in the 1980s by the legendary engineer Bryan Wingfield, from a new period reserve chassis, this car embodies the spirit of competition.
Restored with the utmost care and fitted with period components, P/1000-W has since returned to the track with a bang. Prepared at the highest level in 2015 by Paul Lanzante, it regularly takes part in the biggest historic events: Le Mans Classic, the 6 Hours of Spa, the Tour Auto...
Driven in particular by Paolo Barilla and Gerhard Berger, it collects top-level performances: pole position at the 6 Hours of Spa in 2016, 3rd place in 2018, victory in the 3rd Plateau 4 race at the 2018 Le Mans Classic and a stage win at the 2023 Tour Auto... It is now considered to be one of the most competitive GT40s in historic racing.
This GT40 is ready to take to the track and shine once again, opening the doors to the most prestigious historic competitions, from Goodwood to Le Mans Classic. -
