THE STORY
Rightly considered one of the most influential sports cars ever produced, Jaguar’s beautiful and potent E-Type debuted to widespread acclaim at Geneva in March 1961. Steady updates and improvements defined its long production run along three distinct evolutions through 1974. In addition to improved creature comforts soon following its debut, major updates by autumn of 1964 included a displacement increase to 4.2L and a welcome switch to a smoother-shifting new full-synchromesh gearbox. Featuring sleek Perspex-covered headlamps and retaining their fabulous original styling cues including fine, unobtrusive bumpers, the 4.2L Series I cars were produced into 1967, when a series of running changes kept the design compliant with tightening standards in the United States market.
Exemplifying the original XKE/E-Type concept and exceptionally collectible and enjoyable, this 4.2L 1967 Jaguar E-Type Series I Roadster was delivered new on May 31, 1967 to Milton O. Lustnaur via Jaguar Cars, New York. Featuring the desirable factory color combination of Carmen Red with a black leather interior, it is the product of a comprehensive restoration performed over nine years and completed in 2016 with a total investment of $200,000.
