Radical Launches SR1 Cup Shootout £45,000 Prize Fund

Radical Sportscars has launched its inaugural SR1 Shootout scholarship, offering one lucky winner a fully funded season of racing in the 2018 Radical SR1 Cup as an official Radical Works Team Driver – a prize fund worth over £45,000.

The SR1 Cup offers the first step on the Radical prototype sportscar racing ladder. Since its 2012 launch it has become the UK’s fastest and most exciting entry-level series, with its proven five-year format delivering unrivalled track time, expert tuition and dedicated Radical support at every event.

The entry point to the Radical range, the high downforce, lightweight SR1 boasts a 1340cc 4-cylinder RPE-Suzuki powerplant delivering 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 138mph. Coupled with the aerodynamic design, the resulting downforce and mechanical grip generated equates to GT4-paced lap times.

The Radical SR1 Shootout is open to all senior MSA licence holders, irrespective of age or experience. Entries are now being accepted with a registration fee of £499 per driver, which can be credited in full towards a new SR1 package for 2018 competition. To enter visit www.radicalsportscars.com/shootout and complete the registration form by Wednesday 4th October 2017.

Successful applicants will be invited to the SR1 Shootout assessment at Rockingham on either the 9th or 10th October, to drive the second-generation SR1, undergo additional on-track evaluations in addition to simulator, reaction and media training assessments.

A specialist team of sportscar racing stars, motorsport journalists and Radical management will select the ultimate all-round entrant to win a full season of racing in the six round, 12 race 2018 Radical SR1 Cup. The outstanding winner’s package includes a bespoke Radical race suit, two days of one-to-one instructor tuition ahead of six events, each featuring two 20-minute races at top UK circuits.

The lucky winner, to be announced on Wednesday 18th October, will become a fully-fledged Radical Works Driver, on their way up the Radical racing ladder.

“The Radical SR1 Shootout is a search to find a new Radical ambassador with one of the biggest prize funds in British motorsport on offer,” said Radical Motorsport and Engineering Director, Alex Mortimer.

“The Shootout is open to everyone from gentleman drivers and club racers to career-focused karting graduates. We are looking for a stand-out competitor from our inaugural Radical SR1 Shootout. Our winner could be aged 17 or 70, it’s the complete package that matters.

“With its unrivalled level of performance, accessibility and affordability, the SR1 is one of the best-kept secrets in British motorsport. For 2018, we are broadening the entry criteria to give more drivers the chance to join the series. We’ve added two more events to the calendar and, with the new SR1 also now available, we’re pushing for big grids next year,” added Mortimer.

From next season, the SR1 Cup will be open to all non-professional senior MSA licence holders, while retaining a novice class, providing the perfect platform for seasoned saloon car and single-seater racers, karting graduates and novices alike.
