Over 1,000 classic cars at Watford's Classics on The Green

Over 1,000 classics visited Croxley Green on Sunday 17th September for the Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club’s annual “Classics on the Green” event with Carter’s Steam Fair, supported by Lookers Jaguar.

The event has become famous for bringing classic cars and Britain’s only travelling steam fair together once a year. It has been run by the club for the past 14 years and raises hundreds of pounds for various charities.

Chris Hardey, Chairman of the Club, said: “It was a fantastic event with a great turnout of classic cars, families and enthusiasts from all over southern England. We are very grateful to all of our sponsors who allow us to return bigger and better every year and would like to thank Lookers Jaguar for their continued support.”

The Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club, which was founded in 1994 and has over 150 members, was set up to allow people with classic cars or those who have an interest in them to meet and have fun while at the same time raise money for deserving causes. This year’s chosen charities include Diabetes UK, Bloodwise, Alzheimer's Society, Breast Cancer Research, Herts Air Ambulance and several local good causes.

One of the features of the event was the Chairman’s Choice award, sponsored by Lookers Jaguar, for the best car in show and with over a thousands classics to choose from Chris Hardey faced a tough decision to make.

The Best in Show award went to a 1961 Austin Healey Sprite Mk 1, owned by Bill Harding (63) from Chesham, Buckinghamshire. “My hard work of looking after the car finally paid off!" he said.

The runners up were a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, owned by Gavin Shaw (50), who comes every year to the show from Farnborough, Hampshire, and a 1960 Sunbeam Rapier Convertible Series 3, owned by John Wright (59) from Penn, Buckinghamshire.

Richard George, Head of Business at Lookers Amersham, said: “We are delighted to have supported the Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club once again. It is extremely important that businesses like Lookers get involved with local organisations and support them. They are part of the local community and so are we.”

Lookers Jaguar is a proud supporter of the Watford and District Classic Vehicle Club and has been involved in the club’s major events this year, including the WDCVC Summer Classic Car Show and Classics On The Green.
