As the home of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone has long been right at the forefront of fast-moving, pioneering new innovations – a reputation that will be further enhanced later this month at The Classic (26-28 August).
Providing an incredible insight into how major sporting venues will be able to enhance their audience interaction in the years to come, Silverstone is teaming up with industry leaders Xpertnest for a revolutionary project armed with cutting-edge technology
This futuristic showcase will explore the full potential of exciting new 5G technologies to offer both festival visitors and fans further afield an immersive experience.
As the world’s biggest celebration of motor racing history, The Classic features unrivalled gatherings of legendary competition cars from the sport’s most glorious eras.
All this magic will now be captured on high-tech 360-degree cameras centrally positioned in Silverstone’s packed paddocks throughout the weekend. Then, via a portable full 5G network, live footage (real time) will be accessible exclusively at an activation area at the heart of The Classic, and globally via mobile phone or handheld devices (free of charge) via an App.
As well as being able to access all this enriched footage via their mobile phones, visitors to The Classic will be offered an even more immersive experience via Virtual Reality headsets. These will be available throughout the three-day festival in the busy Shopping Village next to the Village Green area.
“We are excited to be piloting this ground-breaking new technology at The Classic,” confirmed Nick Wigley, CEO of The Classic promoter Goose Live Events. “There’s no doubt the huge advances of 5G technology have the potential to transform spectator experiences and where better than Silverstone to be exploring what the future has to offer.
“Whether sitting in a trackside grandstand or at home on sofas, all those accessing the footage on their mobile phones via the App will be treated to a front row seat as the grids of iconic cars head out onto the famous Silverstone Grand Prix circuit. What’s more they will be able to enjoy different perspectives simply by moving their phones. It’s going to provide a totally new dimension.”
Taking full advantage of its new date over the end-of-summer Bank Holiday weekend, this year The Classic is not only offering the very best historic motor sport but is also providing visitors with much more family entertainment than ever before.
Tickets for The Classic include admission to a host of fun-fuelled activities including driving experiences, funfair rides, a shopping village, football skills and coaching sessions with Yokohama, a world exclusive showcase featuring all seven of Sir Lewis Hamilton’s title winning Formula One cars and a Foodie Fest with celebrity chefs plus the very first pop-up outlet from Jeremy Clarkson’s famous Diddly Squat Farm Shop.
Providing exceptionally good value, tickets also offer three evenings of live music from chart-toppers Sister Sledge, Gabrielle, Dodgy and Rick Astley, extreme sports displays in the Adrenaline Zone and test drives in the latest generation of electric vehicles in Switch Live powered by myenergi as well as access to both racing paddocks and open trackside grandstands.
