For the second time this month, Adam Christodoulou raced to victory at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps track. Competing this weekend in GT Cup Europe as part of the International GT Open, he raced alongside Evgenii Leonov in a Volcano Motorsport 992 Porsche Cup car. 

Following an impressive win at the famed Belgian track at the start of the month, Adam entered the GT Cup Europe race weekend feeling ambitious to emulate this success. He was asked to join Russian driver Evgenii Leonov at Volcano Motorsport for the series’ only endurance race – his area of specialty.

The weekend started strong for the #116 pairing, with Adam topping the timings of his qualifying group on Saturday. Despite a huge number of track limit offences across the entire grid, Adam was able to pull out a clean, quick lap when it counted. After the times from both qualifying sessions were combined, the orange and black Volcano Motorsport 992 Porsche Cup car lined up P2 in class. 

Sunday’s 2 hour and 20 minute race began with Leonov behind the wheel, and he successfully avoided the chaos of the opening laps. Due to a Safety Car just before 30 minutes into the race, the first pit window was postponed, but eventually he was able to box and Adam jumped into the car. Frustratingly his first stint was also affected by a Safety Car period, but he was still able to gain some places during green flag running. With 75 minutes to go he sat 4th in class, and soon after he pitted for the next driver swap.
 

Overall, it was a race plagued by Safety Car periods, with another two affecting Leonov’s second stint. During the commotion, he was able to push into the lead of the GT Cup Europe class, but progress was then halted when he pitted to allow Adam to begin his final stint with 40 minutes to go. He rejoined the race 10th in class, although after the pit cycle he sat in 3rd. With 10 minutes to go, Adam began an intense battle with the green and yellow #52 machine, ultimately passing him for the eventual lead. Despite an engine oil pressure warning with two laps to go, Adam was able to bring home the Volcano Motorsport 992 Porsche Cup car in first.

 
Following another win at Spa, Christodoulou said: “It was a brilliant weekend – and walking away with the victory was the perfect way to end it! I really enjoyed working with this team and with Evgenii. We managed to overcome a 30 second success penalty in the last pit stop, and then in that final stint I had some really fun battles. I wish the team all the best for the rest of the season!”
