Hancock to race GT40 + 196s at Goodwood

So the phone rings - it's Anthony Bamford - "can you drive my GT40 and Ferrari 196s Dino this weekend?"  What do you do? - you were planning to clean out the garage this weekend - the garden's a state etc. oh bollocks you say - it is nearly the end of the summer and goodwood is a fast exciting track - and let's face it Bamford's cars are going to be well prepared and run on a good budget. So you gracefully accept. This is a rambling way of introducing Sam Hancock's PR - and provides a nice opportunity to use a GT40 pic on the front page.

British racing driver, Sam Hancock, will make his 3rd appearance in the spectacular Goodwood Revival meeting this weekend driving a Ford GT40 and a Ferrari 196s Dino.

The annual event is the most prestigious of all classic motorsport meetings and is hosted by Lord March at the lovingly restored former Grand Prix circuit on the grounds of his Sussex estate. Over 100,000 spectators, mostly dressed in period clothing from the ‘40’s-‘60’s, will visit the event during the weekend to witness many of the sports greatest stars of past and present compete in the most breathtaking collection of classic motor cars and bikes.

Sam will race two cars belonging to Sir Anthony Bamford: the first - a Ford GT40 - will compete in the “Whitsun Trophy” for prototype sports-racing cars of a type that raced between 1963-1966; while the second – a Ferrari Dino 196s - will run in the “Sussex Trophy” for World Championship sports cars and production sports racing cars of a type that raced between 1955-1960.

It is somewhat of a departure for the 25-year old Londoner who is more accustomed to the modern-day 'Le Mans Prototype' machinery that he races in his day job, but the reigning Le Mans Endurance Series Champion (LMP2) is not fazed...

"To say that I'm looking forward to this weekend is an understatement!" said Sam, "Lord March and his team always produce such a wonderful event and I'm incredibly lucky this year to have been invited to race these two beautiful cars, which are both all time favourites of mine. I'm really grateful to Goodwood, Sir Anthony Bamford and the all the guys from Gelscoe Motorsport for the opportunity.

“Certainly these old cars are a world away from those I normally drive, but I’ve been racing historic machinery for a while now and absolutely love it – especially in a car like the GT40, it really makes you feel like a racing driver!"
