SCUNTHORPE are celebrating their third Premier League Track of the Year award in the last five seasons. The Scorpions were recognised at last weekend’s BSPA AGM for the standard of their circuit, with the award decided by marks given throughout the season by Speedway Control Bureau referees.Promoter Rob Godfrey said: “We had a good winter, and it enabled us to get the track exactly how we wanted it. We had a motorway blade going around for several days. We also put down some new material – and it just made it amazing. There was so much grip from inside to outside, and it meant there were so many different racing lines.“A lot of effort goes in each and every week to preparing the track. To have a good circuit is a big selling point to visiting supporters, as they know they are almost guaranteed top entertainment, so I am relieved more than anything to get the award.“I put myself under pressure to get a good race track, and the award is a reflection on the track staff and all the hard work they put in. It is something for them, to be the best track in the country.”The Elite League award went to King’s Lynn, with preparation of the Norfolk Arena circuit under the control of promoter Keith Chapman.

BERWICK promoter John Anderson has stressed the club still needs to make arrangements for sponsorship before team building can take place ahead of the new season. The Bandits plan to start the 2015 campaign with the resurrected Tyne/Tweed Trophy against Newcastle in the final week of March.Anderson said: “All I can say at present is that to date we have no-one signed up! We are still actively looking at various avenues of sponsorship and to get a team on track for 2015 will need financial support – and we are out, trying to find it or look for folks to come forward! “With permissions from clubs who own their contacts, we are talking to several guys and one rider, a proven Premier League top heat leader has already notified us that this is the club he wishes to join in 2015, so that is something else we are chasing up as well, but there is a lot to sort out before we can make any sort of progress. Sponsorship investment will allow us to firm up terms with riders, that’s for sure!”

MILDENHALL have signed local youngster Connor King as they begin planning for the 2015 season.King, who commenced riding at the Lakeside Academy in March 2013, is yet to race competitively and the Fen Tigers plan to monitor his progress closely prior to him reaching National League level.Chairman Kevin Jolly said: “Connor is just the sort of lad we are looking to bring to Mildenhall and develop, he is very raw at the moment but the potential is clearly there, he is very professional and wants a career in speedway and feels this is the place where he can progress. “We will not rush him and will give him all the support he needs. It is our intention that he will begin the season in the Midland Development League with the Milton Keynes Knights and I must thank their management for agreeing to this, they are a pleasure to work with and after the successful link up last year it is something we are determined to continue in 2015.”
