Ferrari 512 BB Wide Body @ H&H Classics April Auction

Ferrari 512 BB Wide Body @ H&H Classics April Auction

It’s not just a Ferrari 512 BB with gold wheels – it’s much more.

In single family ownership from new, this 1977 Ferrari 512 BB 'Wide Body' will be offered at a live auction on April 9th in Duxford, UK.

While 929 Ferrari 512 BBs were built, only 101 of those were made in right-hand drive for the UK market.

But this car takes things to another level, making it truly one of a kind.

It has covered just 6,000 miles from new, all with its first and only owner.

After buying the car from Maranello Concessionaires, they commissioned them to make a series of unique upgrades.

Seemingly inspired by the winged, factory-sanctioned Ferrari 512 BB Competizione cars campaigned by Charles Pozzi and NART in the 1978 Le Mans 24 Hours, its front and rear aluminum clamshells were reworked by Barry Merriman with blistered arches to accommodate 9J front and 11J rear alloys (replacing the original 7.5J and 9J wheels).

The area between the B- and C-posts on each side was reshaped too and adorned with deeper NACA ducts. The sidelights were repositioned within the front grille and treble vents added to both rear wings (presaging a similar motif on the later 288 GTO).

The engine lid was de-badged and modified with a Competizione-style wing and transparent covers through which the quad Webers newly fitted trumpets could be admired. Re-jetted to compensate for the loss of their air filters/boxes, the carburettors were complemented by a special sports exhaust.

Having paid so much attention to the way that the engine inhaled and exhaled it is perhaps no wonder that the owner never fitted a stereo!

This 1977 Ferrari 512 BB has matching chassis, engine and gearbox/transaxle numbers. Still garaged at the same Surrey estate it was delivered new to, this one-of-a-kind 1977 Ferrari 512 BB 'Wide Body' comes complete with its 'suitcase' tool kit, original wheels, Maranello Concessionaires Archive dossier and collection of additional paperwork.
