Gene Lee racing the SGLC Team Modena BMW won again this weekend in Korea keeping the team firmly in the hunt for the Super CJ Race Series based at Yongin Everland Speedway.
Team Modena have undertaken consultancy work in the region and see Gene's participation in the SGLC Team Modena BMW 320i WTCC car as a visible showcase for our engineering expertise as well as our committment to the region.
Here is a report from Rounds 9 and 10 held on the 5 September 16th at Everland Speedway from Gene.General Background
"The Lexus GT1 driver Jin Woo Hwang was banned from participating in this weekend's races due to various penalties accumulated over the year, including the one from our accident in race 2. The promoters felt the need to penalize Mr. Hwang for unsportsmanslike driving.
Due to this development, the second driver in the championship took over the #1 Lexus GT1 car for this weekend's races.Qualifying
We qualified in 2nd place, only 0.3seconds adrift of the Lexus GT1 car. For this race, we had a total of 70kgs weight ballast which was the highest of all cars on the grid. The GT1 car had only 55kgs of weight ballast.Race One
We had a mechanical failure. The lower control arm bolt broke causing the wheel to hang loose on lap two. Race Two
Mechanics did a great job to get the car repaired and ready for the afternoon race. We started from 6th on the grid due to our retirement in race 1. It started to rain heavily and everyone went out on wet tires. Immediately, we were quicker than all our competitors including the Lexus GT1 car due to the Michelin tires.
After lap 2 we were hot on the heels of the Lexus GT1 car. On lap 5, we pitted for our mandatory tyre pitstop which took a total of 24.5 seconds to change all four tyres.
The Lexus GT1 car pitted one lap later and their pitstop took longer at 34.5 seconds. We pulled into the lead and maintained it until the end of the race pulling out a total lead of over 14 seconds.Second race win for Team Modena - SGLC and still in the fight for the Championship!"
The next Super CJ rounds of the championship are to be held on October 14th.
