Team Modena - New Cars ordered and On-Line Shop Now Open A podium finish in the final event rounded off the 2007 race campaign of Team Modena's rapid Lamborghini Gallardo, but plans are already well advanced for next year as we round up some recent events for the team and the supporting organisation. 2008 Plans Going to OrderTeam Modena is moving forward with its plans for 2008 with the acquisition of five further GT3-specification Lamborghini Gallardos now in progress. Team Principal Graham Schultz and Chief Engineer Hans Muelhbauer recently travelled to Europe and signed the order for the cars - which should see the team a leading force in the GT3 category next season. Ultimately backed by the Government, the EEMS programme is designed to promote the use of energy efficient technologies in motorsport, and to encourage manufacturers to use the sport to promote low emission fuel-efficient vehicles. "We aim to put energy efficiency at the heart of British motorsport, " said Alan Mercer, EEMS Programme Manager, "to ensure the UK motorsport business benefits from the changes in the road car market as it moves towards energy efficient solutions. There are tremendous benefits for the companies that get in at the forefront of the programme, and we are always pleased to have organisations like Team Modena join us." Save of the SeasonTeam Modena celebrated their first podium finish in the final meeting of the 2007 Avon Tyres British GT Championship season, but it was a result almost denied the team due to a mid-race incident, Adam Jones being forced wide through the quickest corner at the circuit and just avoiding sliding into the wall. Adam had taken over the Lamborghini Gallardo after the pits top in the first race to be challenging a Viper for third place, and made a good exit out of the tight final turn. Looking to go inside the Viper as they crossed the start / finish line the door was firmly closed, leaving Adam no option to go wide and outside the car through the high-speed banked Turn One - the only corner on the full Rockingham oval circuit used by the GT cars. That forced the Gallardo off the racing line, and onto the infamous 'marbles' - the chunks of rubber and other debris that the racecars sweep to the sides of the circuit. Faced with a sudden and massive reduction in grip, Adam gingerly eased the car through the corner as it swept wide on the exit and towards the looming and unforgiving concrete wall, but kept the car under control and was soon back up to race pace, though losing a place in the process. "It was a bit of a moment, I had all four wheels on the marbles," said Adam. "He wasn't going to let me down the inside, and I thought there was room for both of us through the corner, but I didn't realise how far down the circuit the marbles were. I lost all grip and I really thought it was over for a moment!" Team Modena Elect to Miss Le Mans Series 2007 FinaleTeam Modena will not be contesting the final race of the 2007 LMS season - the Mil Mihas event at Interlagos in Brazil in November. That means their recent second place in the LM GT1 class at Silverstone will be the final race outing this year for the team's Aston Martin, which won the Brazilian event early in 2006, part of the illustrious history of DBR9 chassis 101 which has seen the car win in the LMS, in the FIA GT series, as well as take a top-ten overall finish at Le Mans.
