Bit of fun here with a link to an early video of our blown e30 tracktoy - earlier this year.
Not really much news going on so thought we would review one of the most fun moments of the year.
After loads of work at the beginning of the year me, a mate dave cottrel of djcracing and ant of a-tech finally got the blower running on an old bmw e30 track car - which over this xmas break has been pressed into some road duty.
Not going to go into the full spec - but it's quite comprehensive:
chassis - stripped out/caged/h & r cup kit/cobra monacos - but looks quite stock
engine - 2.7 with decked block, low comp 9:1 for blower, eaton m90 blower from an aston martin db7, megasquirt engine management for fuel and sparks, wasted spark, ported head, 6 branch system, big bore throttle body, big injectors etc etc
so how does it run?
well it still needs a bit of mapping on part throttle - but it's hilarious really. blower is running into throttle body opposed to other way round - which has resulted in some challenging off throttle boost disapation issues and it now runs two HKS dump valves - a by product of this set up is a ridiculous amount of noise - which kind of gives the game away!
the torque the motor produces is silly - from 1500 rpm there is action and between 2.5-3.5k - there is serious stomp - today coming into work on greasy quiet country roads resulted in clean wheelspin in 4th...
interestingly if you "drive through" a patch between 2.5-3.5k without too much throttle causing excess boost to be dumped - it revs cleanly to 6.5k+ - still producing good boost
next step is to whizz over to Ant at A-tech the wizard of forced induction mapping and switch it over to Alpha N which will make it easier to map and resolve some of the mapping glitches which need to be sorted and also have a look at beefing up the brakes..
for one reason or another it has not done a trackday since it has been supercharged and hopefully this will be addressed in the next few months - I am already looking forward to the drive home.
Anyway the reason for writing about this is to show you a link to video a a mate put up on youtube - whilst the car had it's first few runs. it's had a few views and already - including a few comments from some right handers who believe that the noise the car makes in the video has sound dubbing/effects!
needless to say - it really does sound like that - and the comments posted are probably by adolescents who if they are lucky get to drive their mum's mpv's at weekends and also believe that ebay electric superchargers actually work :0)
