Tiago Monteiro came, saw and conquered. The Portuguese driver was hoisted up onto the top step of the podium for the first TCR Benelux race on the famous Belgian circuit, Spa-Francorchamps.Tiago and team-mate Stéphane Lémeret's crew, driving the Honda Civic TCR # 18 of the Boutsen Racing Ginion started Saturday's events from pole position thanks to a vote from the fans. Thanks to the 'make the grid system' the fans determined the starting order of the first race of the weekend, a qualifying race lasting 60 minutes. The victory was not easy to grab, but Tiago is very proud of the successful outcome and his debut in the Benelux TCR. "My teammate lost a place at the start and we were about 4 seconds behind the leaders when I took the wheel. I managed to reduce the gap on my opponents and then overtake them before opening up a gap that put me across the finish line as the winner," Tiago explained, happily thanking Honda Belgium on the initiative of his participation in the TCR Benelux with this victory. "I am very happy to have completed my goals to help the team at the beginning of this new championship. It could not have started out any better, the team has gotten off on the right foot."The following day, Tiago Monteiro repeated his magnificent result by winning the first race and finishing 2nd in the second. With this trilogy of excellent results, Tiago honors the invitation from Honda Belgium and allows Ginion Boutsen Racing to take the championship lead before the last two races of the weekend that will be run with his teammate Stéphane Lémeret. "In the first race I left from fourth on the grid and I gradually made my way up to first place and never left. In the second race, which was played out in the wake of the first, I went into the lead, but it started to rain and it was getting dangerous because we were racing on slicks. I went a little too wide into a turn and someone overtook me, then the safety car came out on track and I didn't have a chance to retake the top spot as the race never resumed," Tiago explained.Mission accomplished in the most beautiful way for Tiago who was discovering the TCR Benelux championship. "It's a very interesting championship, with hard fought and tough races. The field is composed of fast and reliable drivers. I would like to thank Belgium Honda for giving me the opportunity to race in this championship," concluded Tiago, who is now concentrating on her next race in the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, that will take place next weekend on the Nürburgring.
