BELLE Vue stunned reigning Elite League champions Poole with a 49-41 win at Wimborne Road on Monday. The Aces smashed the Pirates’ unbeaten home run which lasted 21 matches dating back to April 2015, restricting the home side to just four race winners all evening.Scott Nicholls and reserve Steve Worrall were both in inspired form for the Aces, scoring 12 points apiece, whilst Matej Zagar also collected three wins – but the Pirates suffered a string of disqualifications with Hans Andersen top-scoring on 9+1.Belle Vue boss Mark Lemon said: “Track conditions weren’t great but I didn’t allow any focus or attention to stray onto that subject. I told the boys it was nothing new and that it was like this when I rode here all those years ago.“Basically, it was the same for everyone and we just had to get on with it. We touched on gates and conditions when we did our track walk, gauging them and weighing things up for our strategy.“We formulated a plan and with the way we performed I think it’s fair to say things went to script for us. A few of the Pirates weren’t quite on form tonight but they are very much a quality outfit.”Poole promoter Matt Ford said: “They are a resilient side and certainly they had the fire in their belly this evening and showed us a thing or two. “Whilst it is disappointing to lose our unbeaten run and we were far from our best, the Aces are a good team and Lemo has got them believing in themselves. “It is a very even league this year and there is still a way to go. We must put this behind us and go again.”Newcastle boosted their chances of reaching the League Cup semi-finals with a thumping 60-31 win over local rivals Redcar at Brough Park.Robert Lambert scored a 15-point maximum for the Diamonds with reserve Lewis Rose adding 12, whilst the Bears were limited to just one heat win provided by Jonas B Andersen, who scored nine.Newcastle boss George English said: “Thankfully those who predicted a decent win before the match were right, although to win by 29 points was an excellent and determined effort from the lads.“Robert scored his first maximum for us in fine style and Victor Palovaara has shown when on form he is capable, taking his first win in our colours. Now all we have to do is go and win at Redcar to get that semi-final place later in the season.”In the Travel Plus National League, Cradley saw off some stubborn resistance from Coventry to land a 52-38 win at Monmore. The Heathens’ heat-leaders dominated with Ashley Morris scoring a 15-point maximum and breaking the track record, whilst Max Clegg collected a six-ride paid maximum. The duo combined for 5-1s in Heats 13 and 15 over Storm top-scorer Dan Greenwood (11) after just four points had separated the sides with three races to go.Cradley co-promoter Gary Patchett said: “We were run pretty close and made to work hard in the first two thirds of the meeting but we're always confident of having a strong finish and that proved to be the case once more tonight."This team was built very top-heavy so there is that expectation of course but our top three lived up to the pressure again and it was another big win.”Coventry boss Laurence Rogers said: “I’m proud of the boys tonight, they battled hard and the result doesn’t justify their efforts, being without Liam (Carr) and Jamie (Halder).“It was a good team performance with a great spirit amongst them. Everyone chipped in with what they needed to do, and we have to take that on to Mildenhall on Sunday now.”(SPEEDWAY 2)
BERWICK have announced the signing of 17-year-old Dutch rider Romano Hummel. The Bandits have moved for Hummel, who has a string of Youth titles to his name, on the recommendation of fellow countryman Theo Pijper, and Hummel is set to make his debut at Sheffield on Thursday subject to BSPA approval.Berwick boss Scott Courtney said: “He’s a very talented young lad with a bright future in our sport. “He has this all-action style which our fans will love, plus a very good attitude. It goes without saying that he will need time to settle in and adjust to the tracks in the UK but I feel he'll be able to take a look at most places and adapt pretty quickly.“While this is very exciting news for our club I feel it's very important to thank Henning Bager for his efforts over the last few weeks. I must emphasise how Henning stepped in to help us out of a tricky situation at very short notice.”
