Historic Sportscar Racing (HSR) will be part of America's biggest weekend of racing this Memorial Day Weekend with the HSR WISKO Grand Prix at VIRginia International Raceway, May 27 - 29.

The WISKO Grand Prix marks the first time that HSR has competed on Memorial Day Weekend, which has long been regarded as the premier weekend of auto racing competition in the United States and beyond.

In addition to Sunday's 100th Indianapolis 500 and NASCAR Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte, the famous Monaco Grand Prix will be run earlier that day in Europe. The 24 Hours of Nürburgring sports car race also takes place all weekend on the legendary Nordschleife circuit in Germany.

"Memorial Day Weekend means racing both in the United States and around the world and we are honored to join in on the tradition," said HSR President David Hinton. "We want to thank WISKO for its great support of this event, which also marks HSR's return to VIRginia International Raceway, and we are looking forward to a great weekend on and off the track."

In addition to a Thursday Test Day, the official weekend schedule is anchored by non-stop HSR practice, qualifying, WeatherTech Sprint Races, B.R.M. Chronographes Enduros and the Bob Woodman Tires International American Challenge.

Special on-track races include the two-hour WISKO Grand Prix on Sunday that is scheduled to start at Noon.

The WISKO Grand Prix will also feature the debut of two new HSR racing series, the Classic RS Cup and Global GT.

The HSR Classic RS Cup rekindles the golden era of the original International Race of Champions (IROC) Porsche racing series. Classic RS Cup is a showcase of iconic 911-based Porsches from the 1970s, including the original IROC Porsches and Porsche 911 Carrera RS and RSR models ranging from 2.7 to 3 liters in displacement.

Global GT features modern GT-spec race cars from the last 10 to 15 years that are a few seasons removed from their competitive prime in professional racing series. Among the popular and eligible models for competition are Porsche 996 and 997 GT3 Cup cars, Porsche Boxsters and Cayman S and R models, Ferrari F430 and F458 challenge cars, the Audi R8 LMS and similarly classified models from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, BMW, Maserati, Lamborghini and many more.

The VIR debuts are the first of five race-weekend events this year for both the Classic RS Cup and Global GT. Additional races for both series will be held at the Atlanta Fall Historics at Road Atlanta, September 15 - 18, the Savannah Speed Classic, October 27 - 30, the Daytona Historics, November 10 - 13, and the Sebring Historics, December 1 - 4.

This weekend at VIR, the WISKO Grand Prix off-track schedule is highlighted by a Friday night Memorial Day Weekend BBQ from 5 to 8 p.m. at VIR's signature Barn Building where food and drinks will be served compliments of HSR. The BBQ is open to all competitors and will also feature some games and entertainment that should not be missed.

Tickets for The WISKO Grand Prix are available at the gate at the main VIRginia International Raceway entrance or at the Will Call windows at HSR Registration.
