There really is no time to catch your breath during this busy motorsport season and the High Speed Television channel has a mouth-watering variety of coverage for you to enjoy this weekend.
It might only be May, but the FIM MXGP and MX2 championships are already up to round nine, live from Talavera de la Reina in Spain. Antonio Cairoli continued his march up the point standings last time out at Pietramurata with his third win in as many races. The Italian’s upturn in form means that Tim Gasjer hasn’t won since Latvia in round six. However, the MXGP rookie still holds a slim four-point lead in the standings over arch-rival Romain Febvre. Meanwhile Jeffrey Herlings’ remarkable run of 14 straight victories in MX2 was finally brought to an end by Dylan Ferrandis in Italy – will it prove a temporary blip, or the start of a Jordan Spieth-style downfall?
Things are tight at the top of the V8 Supercars Championship as the series heads to the popular Winton circuit in Victoria. Craig Lowndes leads the points after a dramatic victory last time out at Barbagallo, but a first win of the season from defending champion Mark Winterbottom could see his title defence really kick into gear at a circuit where he won twice last year. Also in the mix as ever will be fellow title contenders Jamie Whincup and Scott McLaughlin in the glorious-sounding Volvo.
If you enjoy high quality sportscar racing then you’ll be in for a treat as we show you round three of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany from the Red Bull Ring (yes, in Austria!) Sven Muller heads Christian Engelhart atop the standings after the first two rounds at Oschersleben and Hockenheim, but rookie Denis Olsen is keeping them both honest in third. Could Austria be the race that sees the Porsche Junior take a first series win?
After the mudbath in Portugal, the FIM EnduroGP World Championship heads to Greece for round three, with Aussie Matthew Phillips being the form rider thus far. He narrowly leads from Mathias Bellino who struggled in the mud of Gouveia and surprise rookie Steve Holcombe. A 65-kilometre loop of Grevena has been specially designed for the Greek round and while the area is well known for its beauty, there could be the risk of seeing some wild bears…
With your appetite for Motocross and Endurance biking well and truly whetted, you can also catch up on all the action from the British scene as the MX Nationals UK visit Pontrilas, while British Minibikes head to Fulbeck.
Last but by no means least, Beltoise in a Matra MS120? Lotus 49s? Pirro in a Ferrari 312B3? A Shadow DN3? A 36 strong sportscar grid? 61 3-litre Formula 1 cars? You really won’t want to miss full highlights from the astonishing Monaco Historic!
