in the ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24-hours
Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus (SCG) is set for their most challenging race so far, the ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24-hours which starts this Saturday, 29 May at 15.30 (local time).
SCG will be running the P4/5 C Mk III, SCG003C Macchinauno and SCG003C Macchinadue. The cars will be numbered 703, 701 and 702 respectively.
This race follows a successful outing for SCG at the very same track a few weeks ago in the second round of the VLN championship where Macchinadue finished first in its class and 12th overall.
Since that race the team have been working hard to ensure all three cars are ready for their toughest test to date. The P4/5 C Mk III will be crewed by BBC Top Gear presenter Chris Harris, EVO road tester, Jethro Bovingdon as well as regular drivers Manuel Lauck and Patrick Bernhardt.
Manuel Lauck will also be behind the wheel of Macchinauno accompanied by Franck Mailleux and Jeroen Bleekemolen while Macchinadue will be raced by Thomas Mutsch, Jeff Westphal and Andreas Simonsen. Felipe Laser will compete in both cars.
P4/5 C Mk III is the 2016 evolution of the P4/5 Competizione M, which raced at the Nürburgring 24h in 2012 in the Hybrid cars category. Compared with the 2012 version, the new model has got an updated battery pack, a new electronic control module – developed by SCG partner Podium Engineering – as well as a new engine. The new unit is a 4.300 cc V8 Ferrari derived engine, limited to 480HP by this race’s Balance of Performance.
Paolo Garella, Programme Director said: “The team has been working tirelessly to ensure all three cars are ready for the weekend and we are all very excited to see what is possible. This is our toughest race yet with it being 24 hours and we have been working hard, not only from a mechanical point of view, but also with our drivers, and from a strategic perspective.”
Franck Mailleux (Macchinauno) said: “I have been waiting for this weekend for a year now. Meanwhile, the team has put together an incredible effort to make the car not only much faster but also reliable. I am confident we will have a main role to play among the big guys like AUDI, Mercedes, BMW and Bentley, and that with a bit of luck as you always need in these kind of racing, we will be able to surprise more than one.”
Jeff Westphal (Macchinadue) said: "As a good racing driver should be, I am extremely excited ahead of our main event for 2016. Coming off a great qualifying effort last race, my #702 SCG and I are ready to go for the long haul in the 24hr."
Jethro Bovingdon (P4/5 C Mk III) said: “I’m incredibly excited to be part of the team and drive the iconic P4/5 C in the ultimate endurance race. From the qualifying race we know the car is fast and easy to drive, so we’re hoping to stay out of trouble and see what unfolds. I can’t wait to get going.”
Free practice takes place on Thursday from 15.45 – 17.25, followed by the first round of qualifying, finishing at 23.30. The top 30 qualifying then takes place from 19.50 – 20.30 on Friday. The ADAC Zurich Nürburgring 24-hours commences at 15.30 on Saturday.
Team principal Jim Glickenhaus concluded: “Thanks to so much hard work, commitment, passion, and dedication we now find ourselves here: ready to start the 24 hours, with three cars. It’s another chapter in an incredible story, which has been characterised by an extraordinary amount of passion by each and every single person who is involved. This is what sets us apart, and will inspire everyone to perform to 200% of their abilities. Whatever happens this weekend, we are all going to come back with some fantastic memories.”
