Falken Nurburgring 24 Hours review

Falken's top ten finish and first Porsche home at Nürburgring 24 HoursNinth overall for Falken Porsche and class win for Falken shod Subaru WRX STI

Falken continued its long-running success at an arduous 2016 Nürburgring 24 Hours, racking up ninth overall for its new Porsche 991 GT3 R, together with a class win and top 20 finish for the SP3T Subaru WRX STI.

With the track living up to its Green Hell nickname, competitors faced challenging conditions that ranged from sunshine through to a hailstorm so severe, it caused the race to be stopped. “The Nürburgring 24 Hours continues to offer the ultimate test of tyres and it’s why we come back year after year,” says Falken’s marketing director Stephan Cimbal, Head of Marketing at Falken Tyre Europe. “Despite not having the fastest GT3 car, with the skill of our drivers, team and tyres, we nonetheless finished ahead of every other Porsche in the 150+ car field. We showed this weekend the difference in performance Falken can deliver.”

Falken’s ability to develop durable tyres for the unpredictable and diverse conditions led to Subaru opting to choose Falken and the Japanese manufacturer was able to add another class win to its tally. “Our success with our first tyres for Subaru highlights that Falken can produce competitive, high performance rubber for a wide range of cars, not just for our own Porsche,” adds Cimbal.

As one of the main sponsors of the 24h-Race, Falken was also involved in activities on and around the racetrack. The Falken Drift Show and drift taxi rides provided plenty of entertainment for the enthusiastic fans and nearly 500 tyre dealers that came from across Europe. Visitors to the exhibition stand in the ring°boulevard saw FALKEN’s entire range of car tyres and could experience a virtual reality video of the FALKEN Porsche on the Nürburgring track via an immersive occulus rift set.
