GLASGOW took over at the top of the Premier League with a nail-biting 46-44 win at Ipswich on Thursday.Former Witches rider Richie Worrall was the star of the show at Foxhall, scoring 17 points from a possible 18 and defeating home skipper Danny King in the decisive Heat 15, with Richard Lawson holding Ben Barker at bay for third place. It came at the end of a week which saw Barker switch clubs, and he top-scored with ten for his new side. Glasgow newcomer Rene Bach scored five, including a win in Heat 14.Tigers boss Stewart Dickson said: “That was a meeting I had to win. When I saw the line-up for Heat 15 I thought, the script is either written for Ben Barker or it's written for me."That was massive. I didn't feel we got the rub of the green on a couple of decisions but we got there. It was very pleasing and it's a big win - because they are stronger now.”Ipswich boss Ritchie Hawkins said: “We are making life very hard for ourselves and the rest of the season. “It's going to be an uphill battle but we need to pick ourselves up, re-group and battle on for the points tomorrow night (Friday) at Edinburgh.”Somerset are also on 19 points – with three matches in hand – after they also prevailed in a tight contest away from home with a 47-46 win at Redcar. The Bears fought back from eight points down with an 8-1 from Jonas B Andersen and Hugh Skidmore in Heat 9, but Josh Grajczonek won the crunch Heat 15 for the Rebels.Lasse Bjerre top-scored for the hosts with 11 whilst Grajczonek with 13 and Paul Starke with 11 led the way for Somerset.Rebels boss Garry May said: “Josh was just brilliant, especially in that Heat 15 to steer us home to victory.“But once again this was another excellent all-round team performance, with Starkey having probably one of his best away meetings in a Somerset race-jacket and everyone making valuable contributions at vital times during the match.”Sheffield completed a trio of clubs level on points at the top of the table by securing a hard-fought 49-40 home win over Newcastle.Jason Garrity roared to a 15-point maximum for the Tigers, including two epic battles with Robert Lambert, as the home side fended off a Diamonds comeback which had seen them cut a ten-point deficit to one.Garrity was backed up by Dimitri Berge on 10 for the home side, whilst Lambert scored 11 for Newcastle with Matej Kus on 10.Sheffield co-boss Marc Bates said: “It was a tough meeting but we are pleased to get another three points and keep our good home run going.“Josh (Bates) wasn't 100% and Steady (Simon Stead) is having a few issues which he's trying to sort out, but Jason as absolutely tremendous again.“He had two superb races with Robert Lambert, who I want to give a special mention to because he showed tonight why he's a really special talent.”Newcastle manager George English said: “This was very much one of our best performances at Sheffield as over the seasons we have been thoroughly beaten time after time, but this was a creditable run for our lads tonight - in the main. “We deserved a league point for our efforts but the last three heats made sure we didn't get our just deserts.”

TEAM boss Jason Attwood has warned Peterborough they must prepare to be pushed to the limit on Friday evening. The Panthers entertain new Premier League leaders Glasgow in a mouth-watering clash at the East of England Showground.Attwood said: “Make no bones about it, this will be a meeting that goes down to the wire. I wouldn’t be surprised if heat 15 is the decider.“Glasgow have so much strength in their side and any team that finishes above them and Somerset won’t be far off the top of the table.”Peterborough again call on the services of a couple of guests tonight. Former Panthers Lasse Bjerre and Michael Palm Toft step into the side in place of their Danish countrymen Ulrich Ostergaard and Emil Grondal, who both have unavoidable fixture clashes in their homeland, and the home side also hand a debut to new reserve recruit Zdenek Holub whilst Nikolaj B Jakobsen is back from injury. Glasgow have Kyle Howarth guesting for the unavailable Rene Bach.Tigers boss Stewart Dickson said: “We've got Kyle in. We don't just look at averages - we look at their scores - and he scored paid 13 there before and scored eight a few weeks ago. We know he likes the track and we're hoping he'll do us a turn.“The bottom line is that the guys have all come through tonight and we'll go there tomorrow in search of more points.”Edinburgh are looking to play catch-up with matches in hand on the rest of the league as they host Ipswich at Armadale.Mark Riss makes his Monarchs debut after replacing Jye Etheridge at the start of a busy run of three fixtures in three days.Team boss John Campbell said: “Mark was our number one target this time although I did speak to a number of other riders from many countries throughout the world but each time we came back to Mark as being the man for our job.“Previously there were suggestions that he was the better of the two brothers but I know that is not the case now, especially as Erik has had more than fifty meetings in the UK and Mark barely does a dozen matches a season - but Mark will have the advantage of someone telling him set-ups from day one that Erik struggled for almost a season to find.”Ipswich manager Ritchie Hawkins said: “In the home match they ran us close in the scoreline but watching the meeting it didn't ever feel like they were running us close to be honest. “They've not had as good as start to the season as they have had in recent years when they've had a lot of success but we need to go there and get our first away win of the season.”

BELLE Vue return to Travel Plus National League action on Friday with a home clash against third-placed King’s Lynn.A win would take the Colts level with the Young Stars and Cradley, with the visitors chasing a second away success.Belle Vue boss Graham Goodwin said: “We had a very busy period last month so it was quite nice I think for the boys to have that bit of a break, but I honestly don't see it affecting them on the night.“We’re looking forward to getting back into our racing at home and I think we are in for a pretty good match with the Young Stars. Their team is similar to ours and practically on the same level.”Meanwhile Coventry host Kent at Brandon in the first leg of their KO Cup second-round tie.The Storm have Liam Carr back from injury and give 15-year-old Henry Atkins his first appearance at this level as a replacement for the injured Jamie Halder, whilst rider-replacement is in operation for Martin Knuckey. For the unbeaten Kings, Stoke’s Ben Wilson steps in for the unavailable Danny Ayres.Coventry boss Laurence Rogers said: “Kent are very strong, the blend of their side has been right and young Jack Thomas has really done well and is now in the main body of their team.“We’re going to need our middle-order to step up on Friday. Rider-replacement gives Liam, Conor (Dwyer), Ryan (Terry-Daley) and Callum (Walker) extra rides, and hopefully Callum can ride like he did at Mildenhall where his team-riding in Heat 2 with Jamie was superb.”

BERWICK’S recent Dutch signing Romano Hummel has quit the club. The Bandits have been informed that the 17-year-old is suffering from homesickness and his family now wish to wait another three years before he resumes his British career.Berwick co-promoter Dennis McCleary said: “Gutted, to say the least. But I do understand and respect the wishes of his family and advisors and, if they feel that at not long turned 17 he is unhappy about staying over here then we have to accept the lad might not be ready to take on the world just yet.“Just as the team was getting into gear and had climbed into the top six in the PL standings, we have another setback, but we are the Bandits and we will fight onwards and upwards.”(SPEEDWAY 5)

CRADLEY have reluctantly released Bradley Andrews from their starting line-up - and immediately challenged him to win back his place.New signing Layne Cupitt replaces him in the side for Monday's Knockout Cup clash with Buxton at Monmore with Andrews on the bench in the number eight slot.Heathens co-promoter Gary Patchett said: “It's very unfortunate and I feel for Brad having come halfway round the world to ride for us but we have to try to make things happen, especially away from home, before it's too late in the season.“Normally you feel you might be able to carry a rider who's struggling for a bit of form and while they find their feet, but the unavailability of Jack Kingston and his position in the top five has placed increasing pressure on the reserves to score points.“Brad still remains very much part of the squad as our number eight and we'll do everything we can to find him extra MDL rides so that he can increase and develop his experience. I'd like nothing more than for him to put pressure on us to put him back into the team.”
