Rockingham to Mark National Motorsport Week‏

FANTASTIC FAMILY DAY OUT FOR LESS THAN A FIVER!

HOW would you like to enjoy a fantastic family day out for less than a fiver? That’s exactly what you’ll be able to do at Rockingham on Sunday, July 3 as the Northamptonshire circuit marks National Motorsport Week (July 1-10).

As part of its ongoing campaign to make motorsport accessible to everyone, for one day only the Northamptonshire circuit is reducing its adult entry price to just £2, with Rockingham donating half the money to its chosen charity, Junior’s Journey.

A firm favourite with the home crowd, the Pickup Truck Racing Series is set to headline the event as the championship showcases the American-style racers in the Rockingham 100 on Europe’s fastest racing circuit and the UK’s only-banked Oval.

Reigning Rockingham 100 champion, Mark Willis always puts in a solid performance on the oval, however with the packed grid littered with such strong contenders, he’ll need to be at his very best over the two 30-lap heats and 40-lap final to defend his title. The thunderous sound of the purpose-built 230bph machines reverberating around the famous Oval has to be heard to be believed, and spectators can expect the usual full-throttle bumper-to-bumper racing at breath-taking speeds.

Also featuring on the day will be the finals of Rockingham’s new Brag Attack shoot-out competition, where consistency, not speed will determine the winner! Drivers will need to select a lap time from their Saturday (July 2) morning session on the International Super Sportscar Circuit, and then match it during two heats in the afternoon.

For every tenth of a second under or over their nominated time, they will receive a penalty point. So the less points you have, the better! The top 20 drivers will go through to Sunday’s final, where they will have to do it all again in front of the crowds to see who will be crowned the 2016 Brag Attack Champion. Prefer a more hands-on experience? There will be the chance to ride shotgun and feel the incredible thrill of being within touching distance of the infamous Rockingham Oval wall in a genuine NASCAR. American Race Car Experience (ACRX) will be running passenger rides in between the racing action.

The day will be topped off by static displays and track parades from everything from US classics to racing trucks. If that wasn’t enough, the event kicks-off on Saturday evening with live music, bar and hog roast in the race paddock. Camping is available for those wishing to make a weekend of it!
