Twelve months almost to the day of his untimely passing, long time official of the Southern 100 Racing organisation, Willie Clucas had a seat dedicated to him outside the Club’s Headquarters, which is situated towards the end of the Castletown By-pass.
Willie Clucas appears to have been around Billown ‘for ever’ involved with the races, but surprisingly it was 1997 when he took up his first official appointment as Deputy Club Marshal. A position he held for three years. He joined the Committee in 2000, taking over as Chief Club Marshal where he remained until the end of the 2009 racing season when he stepped down.
Willie was then elected the first President of the Southern 100 Marshals Association.
Willie was still very much involved with the racing around the Billown Course and its organisation and was always around to offer advice and lend a willing helping hand, both of which are still sorely missed by theclub.Away from the Southside Circuit, he was also involved with the TT Races in the position of Chief Technical Officer.
Southern 100 Racing were delighted to accept the new seat from the family in Willie’s memory and to see it dedicated to a very popular gentleman.
Willie is still very much missed at our regular meetings but his presence remains as does his friendship andadvice freely given over the years.
